Technical characteristics and composition of enamel KO-8111, consumption and method of application

KO-8111 is an enamel that belongs to the category of heat-resistant paints. The coating can withstand temperatures from -120 to +600 degrees without loss of quality. Most often, enamel is used for painting pipes, stoves, bath equipment, gas conductors. Special conditions must be observed when using this type of paint. If the requirements are met, you can count on a long service life.

Heat-resistant enamel KO-8111: composition and characteristics of the material

The main purpose of heat-resistant paints is to protect against corrosion processes, as well as to prevent abrasion of the created coating. This is facilitated by the technical characteristics of the material:

  • coverage: smooth with a matte shine;
  • viscosity: 27 units;
  • drying time: 30 minutes to 2 hours;
  • durability according to U-2: 24 units;
  • adhesion index: from 1 to 2 points.

The parameters indicate the increased protective qualities of the paint. The enamel is resistant to the impact of water, sunlight and chemical reagents.

One of the features of the composition is the complete drying period. It is carried out in 2 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees. At a temperature of +150 degrees, the period of complete drying is reduced to 30 minutes.

Scope

Due to the peculiarities of the technical qualities, the paint has a special area of application. It is used to coat metal surfaces exposed to high or low temperatures.

You can paint fireplaces or barbecues, barbecue appliances with enamel. Enamel does not yield to cracking or peeling at temperatures from -60 to +600 degrees, so it can be used in any suitable case.

Coating durability

Stability is characterized by impact resistance. This parameter is measured with a special device. The unit of measurement is the centimeter. The measurement indicator on the U-1 device is 40 centimeters.

Primary colors

The standard 8111 enamel is available in several shades. The traditional color is white. It has maximum covering power. Due to the peculiarities of the area of application, the paint is produced in silver, gray and silver-gray tones.

For white paint, add color. This technique makes it possible to obtain different shades of matte finish. It should be borne in mind that the qualities characterizing the coverage capacity may deteriorate slightly.

Recommendations for the choice of paint materials

KO-8111 enamel is purchased to work with certain surfaces.When choosing, it is advisable to focus on the following parameters:

  • quality of the coating (roughness, presence of encrusted parts);
  • the conditions under which the work will be carried out (temperature, humidity, climatic characteristics);
  • Terms of use.

Preference is given to a white shade if it is necessary to completely cover the layer with the old coating. It is customary to paint the surfaces in gray or silver gray where the decorative property is important.

When buying enamel for staining, pay special attention to the calculation of the required material. As a rule, enamel is produced in containers of 25 or 50 kilograms.

Application technology

When working with heat resistant enamels, it is important to follow the sequence of work steps. The adhesion between the surface and the material depends on the proper cleaning of the surface.

Surface cleaning and preparation

Cleaning surfaces is an important part of the job. The old layer of paint is completely removed using auxiliary tools. In addition, the metals are cleaned of oily traces. In this case, special degreasers are used. They are applied over the entire surface, then carefully washed off by sandblasting. Degreasers work like a sponge. They collect oily residues and adsorb them.

If there are traces of rust on the surface, then specifically apply a wash, leave it for 30-40 minutes, then wash it off with a high-pressure water jet.

To make the surface even, use the grinding method. To do this, buy a special construction grinder or sandpaper. After grinding, the surface is washed and dried thoroughly.

The paint is applied only on a dry surface, the only exception may be a concrete surface (in some cases).Also, it is not recommended to apply enamel to exterior facades if they are covered with frost, frost or dew drops.

Dyeing

The paint is mixed, diluted with a solvent until a liquid with a working viscosity is obtained. Enamel is applied at air temperature from -20 to +25 degrees. Work in other conditions will cause a lot of inconvenience to builders and repairers.

The surface is painted in any available way:

  • brush;
  • roll;
  • spray gun.

Traditionally, hard-to-reach places are painted first, and then they begin to cover a large area. Here, rollers with velor bristles or wide brushes with natural bristles are used. When using a spray gun, make sure there are no residues of other paint and varnish materials inside that can react with KO-8111 enamel.

Reference! The best application option is to use a pneumatic spray gun.

The last step

KO-8111 is applied in 2 layers. The first layer will polymerize quickly, but before continuing to work, it is necessary to check its adhesion. The second coat can be applied more quickly because a suitable medium has already formed on the surface.

For the first layer to harden, it is enough from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The finish is completely dry after 72 hours. Unhindered operation and transportation becomes completely safe after 5 days.

Material consumption per 1 square meter

KO-8111 - heat-resistant enamel, which is theoretically consumed at the rate of 100-180 grams per square meter. In practice, the calculation depends on the chosen method of application. With the manual method of coloring the material, more will be needed.If you use a pneumatic gun, you can save on gaskets.

In addition, the material consumption rates depend on the operating conditions:

  • 100 to 130 grams per square meter will be needed for surfaces used at high temperatures;
  • from 150 to 180 grams per square meter will be required if the surfaces are used at temperatures up to +100 degrees.

Safety precautions when working with chemicals

Heat resistant paints require careful handling. The presence of volatile solvents makes the material highly toxic. When working, you must adhere to the list of requirements:

  • food containers cannot be used to pour material;
  • work with KO-8111 using a protective gown, construction gloves, goggles and respirators;
  • when painting indoors, open sources of ventilation are provided;
  • if the paint comes into contact with the skin, urgent rinsing of the area with the help of disinfectants is necessary.

If the paint can is opened, it should be used within the next 24-48 hours. Do not leave a container with paint open.

Storage conditions

From the moment of production, KO-8111 Heat Resistant Enamel retains its quality for 12 months if stored with a tightly closed lid.

If the paint can is open, it should be used as soon as possible. It should be borne in mind that the viscosity of the composition will change significantly. For the next stain you will need to add a solvent to make a working solution. This may affect the performance of the formulation.

Attention! It is best to use a construction device for mixing.

Recommendations from the masters

Experts advise mixing the paint thoroughly before starting work. It is important to bring the liquid to a state where air bubbles are completely absent inside. If the composition is too thick, a special P-4 thinner should be used.

Despite the fact that for KO-8111 the surface is not primed in advance, it is possible to use a priming composition if there is a problem with the surface. Using a special primer layer will help create sufficient adhesion between the coating and the material.

The manufacturer recommends applying KO-8111 in two or three layers. The number of coats depends entirely on the shade you want to achieve at the end of the job. If there are no strict requirements and it is allowed to look through the old surface, then 2 layers can be done. If full overlap is desired, 3 coats can be applied. In this case, the time intervals between work must be strictly observed. Each of the finishes must dry to create an even matte finish.
