Technical characteristics of XB paints and enamel colors, rules of application

Enamels are a kind of protective and decorative coatings for metal, wood and concrete products. In terms of hardness, strength, decorative properties, the films formed during the drying of glazes are superior to coatings of oil-dispersible and water-dispersible dyes. XB paints differ from other enamels in their increased resistance to atmospheric and chemical influences.

Characteristics of XB paint

The dye base is a solution of PVC polymer in xylene or a solvent. After drying, vinyl chloride paints create a durable decorative coating that is resistant to temperature extremes and high humidity. The purpose of coloring agents is the finishing of metal, wooden and concrete surfaces.

Manufacturers mark HV paints with a standard category index (GOST) or TU (technical conditions). In the first case, the number of the standard and the year of adoption (separated by a hyphen), established in the USSR, are indicated. Specifications can be developed by the manufacturer.The document contains information about the technical requirements for the quality of the product and the production conditions necessary for this.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantage of PVC paints is a high degree of adhesion to the material of the treated surface.

Thanks to this, the coloring layer is able, without changing the color shade, to protect the painted product from the effects of:

  • humidity;
  • wind;
  • ultraviolet radiation;
  • low and high temperatures;
  • aggressive environments.

The disadvantage of PVC-based paints is the mandatory careful preparation of the surface due to the low fluidity:

  • dusting;
  • degreasing;
  • padding;
  • level the surface.

When carrying out painting work, it is necessary to observe the optimal temperature and humidity conditions (it is impossible to carry out work in rainy, hot/cold weather).

Varieties of compositions and technical characteristics

XB enamels contain polymer resins mixed with pigments, solvents and plasticizers. The compositions vary according to the destination of the enamel layer according to the types of pigments and solvents used.

XB-125

The purpose of enamel is to paint surfaces made of metal, wood, reinforced concrete. The paint additionally includes aluminum powder, which makes it possible to create a durable film with a matte shade.

The advantages of this brand are expressed in durability:

  • mechanical stress;
  • humidity;
  • oils;
  • temperature differences.

Disadvantages of this type of enamel paint:

  • toxicity;
  • mandatory complete degreasing of surfaces to be painted;
  • not used with a spray gun.

Work should be done in a well-ventilated area, wearing protective clothing and goggles.

Paint XB 125

XB-113

The enamel finish is used for wood and metal surfaces.

The painting contains:

  • polymer resins;
  • organic solvents;
  • plasticizers.

Advantages of the XB-113:

  • coloring range of 45 degrees (from -15 to +30);
  • maximum humidity during work - 80%;
  • use of paint sprayers;
  • the rate of formation of a stable coating (no more than 3 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees).

Thanks to these properties, it is possible to use enamel in any climatic zone: from the tropics to the Arctic Circle. Using mechanical means to apply paint reduces labor costs for painting.

Disadvantages of the coloring agent include additional material and labor costs for paint preparation:

  • dilution of enamel with solvents based on acetone;
  • mandatory priming of the surface;
  • use of respirators, gloves during painting work.

The working area must be equipped with forced ventilation.

XB-110

XB-110 enamel is a suspension containing pigments and polymer resins:

  • alkyd;
  • PVC;
  • acrylic;
  • epoxy.

Vinyl chloride paint is used to paint wood and metal products. Before painting, a desiccant is added to the enamel - a means that accelerates the formation of a film on the surface. Purpose - facades of wooden and metal products.

Advantages of the XB-110:

  • drying speed (180 minutes at a temperature of +20 degrees);
  • wide range of colors;
  • long service life (from 2 - in the tropics, up to 6 years in temperate latitudes).

Disadvantages of using XB-110 brand enamel coating:

  • the need to use a desiccant;
  • solvents;
  • floors.

To achieve high-quality adhesion, a clean, dry surface is treated with primers similar in composition to vinyl chloride paint, for example, XC-059.A solvent is added to the enamel and mixed for at least 10 minutes, until a homogeneous composition of the desired viscosity is obtained. In the last turn, add a desiccant, thoroughly mixing the resulting composition for 3-5 minutes. Painting should be started immediately so that the paint does not thicken under the influence of the desiccant.

XB-110

XB-16

XB-16 enamel is used as a decorative and protective agent.

Viscosity and drying speed make it possible to paint surfaces:

  • metal;
  • in wood;
  • concrete;
  • reinforced concrete;
  • Fabric.

The enamel contains:

  • pigments;
  • perchlovinyl resin;
  • glyphthalic resin;
  • organic solvents;
  • plasticizers.

paint XB-16

The benefits of enamel coating include:

  • speed of drying of one layer (no more than 1.5 hours);
  • coloring range - from -25 to +25 degrees with permissible humidity up to 80%;
  • great fluidity;
  • use for interior and exterior work;
  • mechanized staining method.

The disadvantage of XB-16 is the increased labor intensity and additional material costs when performing painting work, since it is necessary:

  • priming of surfaces to be painted;
  • apply at least 3 coats of paint to create a stable coating;
  • the presence of forced ventilation and protective equipment.

Alkyd varnishes with the addition of solvents and desiccants, for example, GF-0119, are used as primers.

The paint is available in 12 colors:

  • grey;
  • lemon;
  • white;
  • black;
  • red;
  • silver;
  • Green;
  • blue;
  • brown;
  • Green;
  • pink and beige;
  • Orange.

Enamel consumption varies depending on the climatic zone: for humid and hot it is necessary to apply 4-5 layers, for moderate - 2-3. In the tropics, the enamel film lasts 2 years, in mid-latitudes - up to 6 years.

XB-1100

Enamel is used to paint wood and metal surfaces. The paint layer cannot withstand high temperatures in combination with air humidity above 80%. XB-1100 contains pigments, polymer resins, solvents and plasticizers.

Advantages of painting:

  • fast drying (formation of a stable film in an hour at a temperature of +20 degrees);
  • use of a spray gun;
  • good adhesion to the surface.

Defaults:

  • the need for primers;
  • dilution to the desired viscosity with a solvent;
  • protect eyes and skin with special equipment.

If the painting technology is followed, the painted surface acquires a durable elastic coating.

Paint hv-1100

XB-7141

Enamel is used for protective coating of metal, concrete and reinforced concrete structures, which are exposed to corrosive environments during operation in high humidity conditions:

  • gases;
  • alkalis;
  • acids.

The paint is made in the form of a semi-finished product: enamel and hardener. The components are mixed immediately before painting. XB-7141 contains pigments, PVC resins, organic solvents. As a hardener, the delivery kit includes PEPA (0.32 part per 100 parts paint) or Epoxy Hardener No. 1 (0.64 - per 100).

Advantages of enamel:

  • can be applied by hand, airblast and airless;
  • wet strength;
  • resistance to short-term exposure to solutions of acids and alkalis (at least 24 hours);
  • hardening for 30 minutes, if the air temperature is +20 degrees;
  • service life - 20 years.

Defaults:

  • high toxicity;
  • the need to use solvents;
  • limited pot life of the finished mix.

Due to the fact that the finished paint retains its properties for no more than 8 hours, it is necessary to accurately calculate the required volume for the paint.

Painting hv 7141

XB-1120

Paints and varnishes are intended for painting steel and aluminum products that are affected by ultraviolet radiation, temperature differences, precipitation, aggressive substances. Enamel is available in green colors.

Benefits of the XB-1120:

  • moisture resistance;
  • acid resistance;
  • alkali resistance;
  • resistance to aggressive air environments;
  • mechanized staining method;
  • high drying speed (from 2 hours at +20 degrees to 1 hour at +100 degrees).

The disadvantage of the coloring agent is the dependence on the strength of the enamel film:

  • the right choice of primer;
  • compliance with the dosage of the solvent;
  • drying method.

Before use, the enamel is diluted to working viscosity using R-12 solvent. Surfaces to be painted must be primed. The choice of a primer depends on the type of metal (aluminum or steel), the destination of the painted products (according to the degree of exposure to aggressive environments).

Application features for various surfaces

All types of surfaces to be painted should be pre-prepared.

Preparatory stage

At the first stage, the surfaces for painting are prepared:

  • The wooden product must be well dried, free of bark and knots. The surface is leveled by grinding, dust is carefully removed. They are primed.
  • Steel surfaces are cleaned of rust and scale using sandblasting machines, shotguns and emery. The dirt is washed off with water. Degrease after drying. Apply a primer. Aluminum surfaces are cleaned of dirt, dried, degreased, then primed.
  • The concrete structures are washed with a jet of water under pressure. Existing oil stains are removed with a solvent, washed with water. After complete drying, a primer mixture is applied.

Preparatory work is carried out in accordance with GOSTs regarding the requirements for roughness, degreasing. The enamel is thoroughly mixed before application. The solvent is added according to the manufacturer's instructions.

XB-7141 enamel is prepared immediately before painting, mixing the semi-finished product with a hardener in the specified proportion. In XB-16 enamel, aluminum powder is introduced into the mixture before dyeing.

Application technique

The method of applying vinyl chloride paints depends on the degree of viscosity of the composition and the volume of work performed.

The manufacturer indicates how the enamel can be applied:

  • roller (manually);
  • pneumatic tool;
  • electrostatic method;
  • en masse.

Enamels can be diluted to a viscosity allowing the use of manual or mechanized paint.

Drying time

The rate of formation of a resistant film depends on the composition of the paint, the number of coats and the temperature conditions. The presence of a desiccant in the composition accelerates the drying process up to 30-60 minutes at 20 degrees heat. In other cases, the time for complete drying of one layer varies from 1.5 to 3 hours.

Chemical precautions

Paints and varnishes contain toxic substances (solvents and resins) which require careful handling when painting. When painting indoors, provide a supply of fresh air.

Respiratory organs, vision, skin must be protected by personal protective equipment:

  • respirator;
  • eyeglasses;
  • gloves;
  • overalls.

In case of contact with contaminated skin, wash thoroughly with warm water and soap.

Storage conditions

Paint and varnish materials are highly flammable and toxic, which requires safe storage conditions: in a cool, dry place, away from batteries, ovens and direct sunlight. The shelf life guaranteed by the manufacturer is 1 year on average. After deconservation, the working qualities of the enamels are preserved for 6 months.

How do I replace XB paints?

Enamels similar in composition and properties to XB paints are enamels based on alkyd-acrylic varnish (AC) and alkyd epoxy resin (EP). These paints and varnishes have good protective properties that retain their quality characteristics in all climatic zones.
