What is
Artistic compositions from modules are an original, non-standard element that revives and transforms any interior. They are canvases divided into several fragments that have a single idea or theme.
Modular compositions are made as follows. The selected image is printed on high quality canvas and cut into pieces. Then each of the fragments is stretched on a separate base. Formed parts have no frames, which creates the effect of the integrity of the composition. The fragments can vary in size or be identical. And their number varies from two to five or more.
Varieties
There are several varieties depending on the number of segments.
Diptych
An image of two modules is called a diptych.This is the simplest option, consisting of rectangular parts of the same size, located mainly in the vertical direction.
Triptych
The triptych is a piece in three parts. There are options consisting of rectangular pieces of the same size. Products in which the central module has the shape of a square, and the side ones are rectangular look original and effective.
Penaptych
A product consisting of four elements of different sizes and shapes, which can be placed in a free order.
Polyptych
A painting in which the number of modules reaches five or more is known as a polyptych. The sizes of its parts can be different and are located both vertically and horizontally at different levels.
How can you place
In order for a modular picture to perfectly complement the interior, you need to choose the most suitable place for its placement. In this case, several important factors should be taken into account - the type, size and theme, the style of the interior of the room. It is also important to maintain a certain interval between the segments and to choose a reliable fastening for them.
Main characteristics
When choosing a suitable section of the wall for the location of the composition, several recommendations should be taken into account:
- options with a horizontal image are best placed on walls that require visual expansion;
- massive art compositions are appropriate in open spaces without clutter;
- it is advisable to place the lower edge of the picture at a height of one and a half meters from the floor;
- for some types of materials for creating modular paintings, the lighting of the room plays an important role - for example, if the picture is painted with oil paints, the composition should be placed in a room more or less dark to protect it from ageing;
- a modular picture with a vertical pattern will look larger, more expressive and effective when placed on the main wall of the room.
Selecting the distance between elements
Once the place is chosen, you must decide on the distance between the segments. This affects the integrity of the composition's perception. The recommended spacing is two to three centimeters.
Above four to five centimeters, the fragments seem distant and unrelated to each other.
If the wall has a small area, and the space itself is very limited, then the distance between the fragments should be reduced. On spacious walls, this gap can therefore be slightly increased.
How to hang and tie correctly
There are several ways to attach modular boards. Let's consider which of them are the most effective and reliable.
Self-tapping screw for dowel
One of the oldest and simplest mounting options is the use of dowels and self-tapping screws. The advantage is that it allows you to fix a modular composition of any weight. A hole with a diameter of 6 mm is drilled in the wall and a dowel is inserted so that the head is adjacent to the wall.
Nails
Another classic way is nailing. Suitable for wooden surfaces.
Liquid Nails
If the place for placing the modular image has been successfully chosen and it is not planned to be transferred, then you can securely fix it with "liquid nail" glue. Such a mount is not afraid of temperature drops or humidity:
- Do dot marking.
- On the reverse side of the image fragment in the center, as well as along the perimeter, apply glue, observing a distance of five centimeters.
- Repeat the same steps for each painting module.
- Firmly press the glued parts onto the base and hold for a few minutes.
Double-sided tape
A convenient option is to secure the segmented image with double-sided tape. This is a durable cloth tape with a layer of adhesive on each side. Suitable for secure attachment to a wide variety of surfaces - plaster, plasterboard, wallpaper and others. To attach a photo, you must do the following:
- Cut several 10-12 cm pieces from double-sided tape. Each piece will require up to four of these pieces.
- Remove the protective tape from one side of the tape and attach it to the back of the board by grasping the corners.
- Remove the protective film from the other side of the tape.
- Press the board to the chosen location on the wall and hold it there with little effort.
Velcro
Velcro is similar in appearance to double-sided tape, except that the adhesive is applied to one side. Velcro or contact tape is attached to the second. One side is attached to the wall and the other to the picture frame. After that, the contact strip halves are joined and hold the strip together.
spider hook
The high quality plastic spider hook is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to attach a modular picture. This product is small in size, on one side of which are placed two to five pointed rods made of durable metal. Depending on the size and number of rods, these hooks can hold two to nine kilograms:
- Pull the studs one by one towards the upper part of the hook.
- Install in the desired location.
- Push the cloves into the base.
Smart Restraint Device
Using the smart clip, you can attach a modular painting, regardless of the type of surface.
Such fasteners, made in the form of polyurethane rectangles, are able to withstand a load of up to two kilograms.
Hanging system
This modular composition system is also known as a gallery system. It is based on a durable rail made of steel tube or aluminum profile. Pictures are hung on it on special hooks, which can move freely on transparent fishing lines. Such a system can be mounted both on the wall and on the ceiling.
Ceiling plinth
Another simple option is to place the fragments of the modular painting, attaching them to the ceiling plinth. In this case, as in the previous one, a strong transparent fishing line is used. The advantage of this method is the placement of almost any number of segments.
On a concrete wall
In panel houses with concrete walls, the following option is mainly used:
- Prepare the required number of dowels.
- Mark and drill holes of the required diameter.
- Remove excess dust with a vacuum cleaner.
- Insert a dowel into each prepared hole in turn and press with your finger as tightly as possible.
- Make sure the anchors do not protrude from the wall.
- Tighten the screws so that there are small spikes to place the paintings.
The subtleties of choosing a location in relation to furniture
In living rooms, modular compositions are mostly placed above sofas and sofas. In order for the space to be balanced and harmonious, the dimensions of the painting and the cabinet should be approximately the same. It is not at all necessary to hang the composition strictly above the center of the sofa.In some interiors, the asymmetrical layout looks more interesting. In the bedroom, segmented compositions are placed above the head of the bed. The width of the canvas should ideally match the width of the bed.
Common Mistakes
When arranging modular paintings, the following errors occur:
- Too small or, conversely, large sizes of the segmented composition, not corresponding to the size of the wall.
- Place the painting at a high height from the sofa. It will be enough to step back 25 centimeters from the level of the back.
- The discrepancy between size, color and the idea of the composition, as well as the general style solution of the interior.
Additional tips and tricks
In order for a modular image to look harmonious in the interior, you should follow the recommendations:
- Choose the right lighting in which the composition will show its benefits.
- Stay away from large indoor items.
- Try to ensure that each fragment of the picture is adjacent to the wall surface.
- Place at eye level to avoid unwanted distortion.
