Slime or, as it is also called, slime is a popular children's toy in the form of a jelly-like stretching mass, sold in plastic boxes. This toy gained popularity at the end of the last century. Slime can be made with your own hands from improvised materials that everyone has on the farm, for example, shampoo, starch, dishwashing detergent. Today we will find out how to make a do-it-yourself slime from gelatin.
Characteristics of gelatin sludge
Gelatin is a colorless or yellowish collagen, viscous mass that is a product of animal connective tissue processing. It is usually used in the production of various food products, wood products, textiles, leather, and also serves as a base for paint.
Gelatin does not contain toxic substances in its composition, therefore, in itself, it is not dangerous for the child's body. However, recipes with its use also use ingredients such as modeling clay, glue and shampoo. This component gives the slime a special gelatinous consistency. A toy prepared with its use is more liquid than other varieties of slimes, and has an interesting texture.
Gelatin-based slime is usually short-lived and goes bad quickly, but it's very easy to remake.

To make a slime from gelatin and modeling clay, we need one hundred grams of modeling clay, about fifteen grams of gelatin, cold water, a mixing container and an additional container for heating. It is better to use a metal bowl, because we will warm it over the fire.
First, soak the gelatin in water without stirring. We leave in this form for about an hour. After the gelatin has swelled in the water, put our container on low heat and heat until boiling. Now let's take a piece of plasticine in our hands and knead it carefully. The exit should be a soft warm room. We put it in a separate container and fill it with a small amount of water, then stir thoroughly.
When both components of the mixture are ready - water with gelatin is warmed up and cooled a little, and plasticine is mixed with water - pour them into a container and mix. Put the well-mixed mass in the refrigerator for about thirty minutes. The mixture will harden and turn into a jelly-like elastic toy.
Elastic
To give mud more elasticity, add sodium tetraborate to its composition. This ingredient will make the toy thicker and more elastic. Soda or starch can also be used as a thickener.

For the next recipe, we will need powdered gelatin and liquid dishwashing detergent. You have to mix the powder and the dishwashing liquid together and leave to infuse for several hours at room temperature. If you don't have dishwashing detergent, you can substitute it with bath foam.
After the mass has infused enough, put it in the fridge. After another four to five hours, remove the container with the mass from the refrigerator and knead it in your hands. A slime made by this recipe, with proper storage, will only last three to four days, but it's easy to make, so you can make a new toy anytime.
Liquid, flavored with lime
This slime recipe differs from others, first of all, in that it uses only safe edible ingredients. To do this we will need a few packets of lime gelatin, water, food coloring and corn syrup. Let's take two containers. In a container, dissolve several bags of lime gelatin in hot boiled water. Slowly stir the mass, gradually adding gelatin, then leave the mixture to infuse for several minutes.
Pour the corn syrup into the second container and slowly add the gelatin solution to it. Pour slowly, constantly stirring, until the mass acquires the consistency we need. At the exit, a liquid elastic mass should be obtained.
No glue
For the next method, we will take the gelatin itself, as well as sugar and toothpaste.Take a packet of gelatin and pour it into a bowl. Add about half a tube of pasta and sugar in an amount equal to one teaspoon. Thoroughly mix our mass and put it in the refrigerator. In the refrigerator, the composition should be kept for a couple of hours.
It may not thicken in the fridge, so you can add sodium tetraborate as a thickener. A few drops should suffice. You can also use regular baking soda as a thickener.
With shampoo
Take shampoo, gelatin and food coloring. The shampoo should be thick enough so that the consistency does not fall apart. Beyond that, find the scented shampoo that suits you. Pour the shampoo into a bowl and add the dye. If the shampoo itself is shiny enough, additional coloring may not be necessary. For greater luminosity, you can add small sparkles to the mass. Mix the shampoo with the dye.
The next step is to add gelatin powder to the bowl. Pour slowly, stirring constantly, until you reach the desired consistency. Gelatin-based slimes tend to have a runny consistency, so if you want the toy to be thicker and denser, you can add baking soda or potato or cornstarch to the mix to this stage as a thickener. Add a small amount of water and mix well again. Put the mass in the refrigerator for several hours, then remove and mash it. Ready!
Home storage and use
Gelatin-based slimes tend to be short-lived and go bad quickly. Plasticine mud with gelatin will retain its properties for about a week, finger jelly mud will last for several days.However, you can extend the shelf life of slime by following the storage rules. First, store your toy in a plastic box. This will protect it from exposure to air and sunlight, which will spoil the components of the slime. Second, the container with slime can be stored in the refrigerator. Storing the toy in a cool, dark place will protect it from excessive light and heat.
Try not to get mud on dirty surfaces, as the dirt particles will get stuck in the gelatinous structure of the toy and it will be very difficult to remove them, it will be easier to make a new toy. Observe safety precautions while cooking.
