Instructions for using Desmokol glue, its composition and what can be diluted
Among the many compounds used for bonding surfaces from various raw materials, the recently marketed polyurethane adhesive is rapidly gaining popularity. Detailed instructions for the use of Desmokol glue will help you to use the synthetic substance in practice and in special workshops, for the repair of household items at home.
Composition and purpose
Components that make up the glue:
- modifying additives;
- synthetic resins;
- organic solvent.
The main purpose of Desmokol is to bond leather surfaces. The adhesive is positively certified by consumers, it bonds glass, rubber, plastic and metal products. In addition, glue is used to repair shoes and other things made of polymeric materials.
Features
Compared to similar products, Desmokol glue has 6 advantages:
- The composition is transparent, the bonding area after the repair remains invisible. This makes it possible to restore things or shoes, giving them their original appearance.
- Glue is not afraid of water. The universal product bonds surfaces with a moisture content of less than 25%.Therefore, "Desmokol" is used to repair hunting and fishing ammunition (suitable for gluing patches on inflatable boats).
- The composition does not crack under the action of loads, does not crumble when the air temperature drops to 0 .
- The glue is convenient to work with. Desmokol takes some time to dry completely. This corrects the connection point.
- Durability and resistance of joints. Materials glued together with the composition form a whole.
- The connection is durable and elastic. Shoes after repair do not cause discomfort.
The disadvantages of Desmokol glue include flammability, since the product is solvent-based.
Application rules
Before starting work, you must prepare the parts to be glued:
- Remove dust, dirt.
- Clean the surface of traces of old glue. To improve adhesion performance, sand everything with sandpaper.
- Remove moisture and degrease.
According to the Desmokol glue user manual, the adhesive can be used in 3 ways.
The usual way
After cleaning the area, the composition is not applied in a thick layer, after 10 minutes the surface is again smeared with glue. The product is set aside for a short time. Then the parts to be joined are pressed against each other with force.
When using the heater
This method offers the best connection. 10 minutes after applying the composition, the glued areas are heated to a temperature of 80 ˚. Any heater is suitable for this, for example, a hair dryer. Hot surfaces tighten more. If the composition is of good quality, you will not have to use auxiliary weights.
wet process
The parts to be bonded are thoroughly cleaned and moistened with water. "Desmokol" is not applied thickly to the surface, it is determined under a press. This method is considered the most effective.
Important! Shoes repaired in this way can be worn after 24 hours at the earliest.
How to dilute the composition
To obtain Desmokol glue from a granular composition, dilute it with a solvent in a ratio of 1:10. For example, 10 g of dry composition is dissolved in 100 ml of acetone. It is necessary to mix at a temperature of + 25 ... + 30 ˚С. The dry bulk mixture is poured with a solvent, left to swell for 7-8 hours. After the resulting transparent liquid is gently stirred until a homogeneous composition is obtained.
Analogs
There are other brands of high-quality glue that do not differ in performance from Desmokol:
- "Nairit". Light brown universal adhesive with a pungent solvent odor. Bonding work should be carried out in a well-ventilated room.
- "I-900". A two-component mixture characterized by resistance to gasoline, oil and water. The main purpose is the bonding of rubberized fabrics, but it is also used for other materials: paper, plastic, leather and chipboard.
- "POLING-170". Shoe glue also used for bonding dense fabrics, glass, rubber, thermoplastic elastomers. Requires thermal activation by lamp heat sources.
- "SAR 306". One-component adhesive resistant to high temperatures. It was developed for the production of leather goods, but has spread to other areas. In its carefully sealed original packaging, after opening it retains its working properties for up to 24 months. Available in 2 colors: white, translucent and black.
Before using analogues, the preparation of the parts for gluing is carried out in accordance with the rules for using Desmokol polyurethane glue.
How to store it properly
After opening, the adhesive properties of Desmokol are retained for 12 months. The product is stored in a closed hermetic container at a temperature of + 10 ... + 25 ˚С, away from heating radiators and radiators.
Additional tips and tricks
Recommendations from experienced specialists:
- If it is necessary to glue surfaces exposed to humidity and temperature extremes, in the Desmokol glue, to improve performance, add the Desmodur additive in a ratio of 1 to 7. This composition provides strength of adhesion.
- For ease of use, the adhesive from the box is poured into a smaller container. In a plastic bottle, the glue retains its properties for a long time. The main thing is to tightly tighten the lid.
It is not difficult to work with Desmokol glue. The main thing is to follow the rules of operation, to observe the instructions. It takes some time for the composition to dry, and this is an opportunity to correct the location of the parts, if they were connected incorrectly.
