Composition and technical characteristics of paint BT-177, consumption rate and storage
Composition BT-177, or silver paint, is used both for decoration and protection of metal products. This material prevents the formation of corrosion, thereby increasing the service life of structures. Unlike other similar paints, BT-177 is not exposed to atmospheric precipitation and does not fade for a long time. However, despite the indicated properties, the field of application of silver is limited.
Composition and specifications
Silver is based on 2 components: aluminum powder and bitumen varnish. GOST determines that the specified ingredients are contained in an amount of 15-20% and 80-85%, respectively, of the total volume of the mixture. A quality certificate is issued for each jar of serebryanka, which contains the specified parameters. This paint is available in the form of powder and varnish, which are supplied separately.
Serebryanka has the following technical characteristics:
- viscosity level - 18-35 s;
- share of dry residue - no more than 40%;
- temperature at which the paint can be applied - from +5 to +35 degrees;
- the thickness of the applied layer is 20-25 micrometers;
- minimum material consumption - 80-130 grams per square meter;
- the degree of elasticity in bending - up to 1 millimeter;
- covering power of the film - 30 grams per square meter.
After application, BT-177 paint forms an even coating without sagging or other defects with a semi-gloss sheen. The color of the material may vary depending on the type of segments used (mainly silver).
Silver can be applied directly to the cleaned surface. But it is recommended to paint over a primer. Before each use, silver can be mixed with a solvent, for which turpentine, solvent or white spirit is used.
Apps
Silver enamel is used for external and internal work. The material is mainly used for dyeing different types of metals (non-ferrous, black), including:
- country inventory;
- car rims;
- gates and pipes;
- fences and so on.
Silver metal contains aluminum. Therefore, it is forbidden to use this paint for processing objects used in children's institutions, hospitals and other premises with increased safety requirements, as well as products intended for consumption. It is impossible to apply the product to products heated to temperatures above 90 degrees. In addition, it is forbidden to treat objects with silver paint already coated with nitro enamel, alkyd or oil paint.
Advantages and disadvantages
BT-177 paint has the following advantages:
- creates an even surface layer;
- protects metal from corrosion, ultraviolet rays, humidity and temperature extremes;
- prevents wood rot;
- dries quickly;
- has a long life.
Most often, BT-177 paint is produced in silver color.But there are also enamels with a bronze, golden or copper tint. The surface treated with paint becomes water repellent. Serebryanka tolerates the effects of detergents and aggressive chemicals, abrasive substances. The life of the paint can be up to three years.
The disadvantages of silverware include the fact that the material is not allowed to be used in rooms with increased security requirements. Also, this composition is not suitable for coloring products used for food and drinking water.
Work rules
Rules for mixing and applying BT-177 paint are indicated on the package. It is important to prepare the surface before starting work.
Surface preparation
Before painting, the surface should be cleaned of other enamels, rust and dirt using suitable compounds or sandpaper. It is also recommended to process the material from fat. After that, the surface should be puttyed, if necessary, and a layer of primer should be applied.
Dye technology
The solvent should be mixed with the paint in a 1: 1 ratio. In some cases, this ratio can be changed, which makes it possible to obtain the desired viscosity of silver. The best solvent for BT-177 paint is considered a solvent, but other compositions can be used.
Before application, check that the surface is dry. You can process the material with silver paint using a roller, brush or spray. Paint should be applied in 1-2 layers, waiting for the previous one to dry. It is recommended to paint the surface at a moisture content of not more than 80%.The temperature of the processed material should be above +15 degrees.
Drying
At room temperature, silverfish completely solidifies in 16 hours. After the expiration of the specified period, the processed material can be used for its intended purpose. Appropriate devices help to speed up the drying of enamel, with which you need to warm the painted surface to +100 degrees.
This should be done within 30 minutes. Then you need to wait at least three hours, after which the painted product can be used.
How to calculate the consumption for 1 m2
Paint consumption depends on several factors, including the number of coats applied and the type of material being processed. On average, one square meter contains 110 to 130 grams of silver. In this case, the thickness of the layer can reach 25 micrometers.
Precautionary measures
Due to the fact that a solvent is used in the preparation of the silver, it is forbidden to paint near sources of open fire. This could cause a fire during the shift.
It is recommended to carry out the procedure in well-ventilated areas, wearing personal protective equipment (respirator, gloves and mask). If the paint comes into contact with the skin, the skin should be washed off immediately. If necessary, the dermis should be treated with white spirit.
It is forbidden to use silverware to dye dishes. This product contains aluminum which, if ingested, causes chronic disease. Leftover enamel should not be discarded. Serebryanka must be disposed of as construction waste.
Storage conditions
Store enamel and aluminum powder (paint components) in sealed containers away from direct sunlight. Silver must be protected from contact with moisture. Store this product at temperatures from -40 to +40 degrees.In such conditions, enamel retains its original properties for a year, and aluminum powder - 6 months from the date of manufacture.
