Composition and form of release
Enamel is a suspension of fillers and pigments in a polyphenylsiloxane resin solution modified with a copolymer of butyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid.
The product belongs to heat-resistant paints and organosilicon enamels. A refractory material is obtained by creating a macromolecule of an organosilicon compound. It is characterized by strong bonds between silicon and oxygen atoms.
The required properties are achieved with additional components. These include:
- epoxy resins;
- carbide layers;
- anti-corrosion components;
- acrylic varnishes;
- ethylcellulose.
To achieve the required shade, special pigments are added to the enamel composition. They also differ in a heat-resistant base. Therefore, the shade remains bright even under the influence of high temperatures.
In most cases, dyes are applied to metal products, as they reliably protect them from corrosion. However, it is allowed to treat concrete or brick surfaces with the material, which must be operated under difficult conditions.
Coating drying time and durability
The drying time of the paint is influenced by the temperature regime. At +20 degrees it takes 2 hours, at +150 degrees this process takes no more than half an hour.
The heat resistance of grade "A" material at a temperature of +400 degrees is at least 3 hours. The heat resistance parameters of grade B enamel at +600 degrees also reach at least 3 hours.
The resistance of enamel to static influence at a temperature of +20 degrees differs depending on the liquid:
- water - 96 hours;
- gasoline - 48 hours;
- industrial oil - 48 hours.
Storage conditions
During storage, a precipitate may appear, which mixes easily. This does not apply to signs of rejection. The guaranteed shelf life is 1 year.
Advantages and disadvantages of enamel
The use of KO-8104 provides protection of the material from the influence of external factors. In this case, the substance helps maintain the appearance of the surface to be painted. After applying the enamel, a protective film forms on the surface, which does not deteriorate under the influence of high or low temperatures.
Thus, the material has the following advantages:
- the ability to give the surface a decorative look;
- resistance to the influence of external factors;
- the possibility of staining in any conditions;
- the formation of a protective film on the surface of the painted object;
- UV resistance - this allows the composition to be used for application to outdoor objects;
- wide range of colors;
- Low consumption;
- low price;
- corrosion protection when applied to metal surfaces;
- long life expectancy.
In addition, the material also has some disadvantages. The main drawback is considered high toxicity when drying the painted surface. With prolonged contact with the substance, there is a risk of negative reactions resembling drug poisoning. Therefore, experts advise working in a respirator. This is especially true when painting interior surfaces.
Variety of palette and recommendations for the choice
The material is versatile. It can be used to paint concrete, stone, brick and metal surfaces.At the same time, many shades are characteristic of enamel - green, gray, blue. Yellow, blue and other colors are also on sale.
To buy a quality product, you should pay attention to the manufacturer and the expiration date. The consistency of the enamel is also important.
Application technique
To obtain a uniform coating, it is necessary to strictly observe the rules for applying the substance.
In this case, it is strongly recommended to pay attention to the preparation of the surface.
Surface preparation
To improve the adhesion of the material to the substrate, proper preparation is necessary. To do this, it is recommended to proceed as follows:
- Clean surfaces of dust, dirt, grease, salts.
- Remove existing rust. It is also important to get rid of paint that does not adhere well to the coating. This may require the removal of all the dye or the cleaning of individual fragments.
- Perform cleaning to the degree of St3, SA2-2.5. This is done according to standards.
- Before using the paint, degrease with xylene or solvent. At the same time, it is necessary to start staining no later than after 6 hours on the street or after 24 hours in a closed room.
To achieve a high quality result, a clean and dried base is a prerequisite. In this case, the material will lie evenly and have a high degree of adhesion.
The preparation of the enamel for the application does not matter. Mix well before use. This will help achieve an even consistency and remove sediment. Then you have to wait another 10 minutes. This time is necessary for the release of air bubbles.
Before carrying out any work, it is important to carry out control measurements. In this case, the viscosity parameters should be as follows:
- with pneumatic spray - 17-25 seconds;
- when spraying without air - 30-45 seconds;
- when applied with a brush or roller - 25-35 seconds.
The parameter is determined using a VZ-4 viscometer, which has a 4 mm nozzle. In this case, the temperature should be close to room temperature and be +20 degrees. If the viscosity parameters are exceeded, the enamel should be mixed with acid or orthoxylene. However, the amount of solvent should not exceed 30%.
If you need to take a break from painting, it is recommended to tightly close the container with enamel.Then the material should be mixed again and wait 10 minutes.
Staining methods
It is necessary to apply the enamel in 2 layers. To do this, it is permissible to use a brush, roller or pneumatic sprayer. It is also acceptable to use the airless spray method. The product can be applied in an electrostatic field.
When working, it is worth providing the following conditions:
- Humidity - no more than 80%.
- Temperature - from -30 to +40 degrees. When working in cold conditions, it is important to ensure that the surface temperature is at least 3 degrees above the dew point. This will help prevent frost and ice crusts from forming on the surface.
- The gap between the spray nozzle and the base in the case of pneumatic atomization is 20-30 centimeters. In this case, the diameter of the nozzle should be 1.8-2.5 mm.
Hard-to-reach places, edges and seams should be painted over with a brush.In this case, metal surfaces should be painted in 2-3 layers. This is done crosswise. Each layer should dry for 30 minutes to 3 hours.
The specific time is determined by temperature indicators. With negative values, the drying time can increase by 2-3 times. It is recommended to paint concrete, cement and plaster plasters in 3 layers.
The last step
It is recommended to dry the final coating at a temperature of +20 degrees. Full hardening occurs during operation. Heat drying is also acceptable. First, it is worth keeping the surface for 30 minutes at room temperature, then increasing the parameters by 3.5 degrees per minute. It is recommended to do this for an hour.
If during operation the surface is exposed to the influence of oil, salt solutions, gasoline or other substances, it is worth drying in a hot state for 15-20 minutes. In this case, the temperature regime should be + 250-400 degrees.
The finished coating has, on average, a thickness of 40 to 50 micrometers. The number of layers is determined by the method of application and the total thickness of the coating. It is allowed to operate and transport the products after 3 days.
Enamel consumption per square meter
Single-layer coating of products used at temperatures above +600 degrees requires the use of 130-150 grams of enamel per square meter. If the surface is planned to work at temperatures up to +150 degrees, then it is worth using 150-180 grams of the substance.
Precautionary measures
Enamel is considered a toxic material. Therefore, it is better to paint the products in open areas or in well-ventilated areas. The use of personal protective equipment is also important.
KO-8104 enamel is considered a fairly popular material that has excellent technical characteristics. To obtain a high-quality coating, it is important to strictly follow the rules for applying the substance.
