How and how to properly paint a gas stove at home, how to update

Cookers are used in extreme conditions. This equipment is constantly exposed to strong temperature variations, contact with liquids (including boiling water) and fats. Under such conditions, the enamel begins to flake off, which can eventually lead to the formation of rust. When choosing what can be used to paint a gas stove, you need to take into account the peculiarities of the base. In particular, ceramic surfaces should not be treated with enamel.

Requirements for the coloring composition for electric and gas stoves

Gas equipment is mainly made of alloy steel, which is able to withstand constant temperature fluctuations and exposure to aggressive substances for several years. Most often, such devices have an enamel coating. The more expensive models are made of stainless steel or glass-ceramic.

Standard enamel or acrylic cannot be used for panel processing, as these dyes melt at high temperatures.

For enamel surfaces

When choosing a paint for gas equipment with an enamel surface, the area of future work should also be taken into account.For the processing of the interior walls, materials are used that not only withstand a temperature rise of up to 400 degrees or more, but also withstand increased acidity. For painting exterior surfaces, it is recommended to use compositions that are not afraid of contact with aggressive substances (especially detergents).

Enamel that can be used to decorate gas and electric stoves must contain:

  • feldspar;
  • a soda;
  • Quartz sand;
  • borax.

These components are considered necessary. Thanks to these substances, the enamel acquires the necessary properties. However, coloring compositions containing:

  • alkaline components;
  • alumina;
  • zinc;
  • titanium;
  • carry out.

These components provide the required strength characteristics, creating a durable coating resistant to aggressive factors. In addition, enamels containing nickel and cobalt oxides are distinguished by similar characteristics. Both components increase adhesion so the compound can be applied to untreated panels.

For stainless steel

Stainless steel plates are unpainted. This material initially has the required strength characteristics and is not affected by high temperatures or aggressive substances.

For ceramics

These electric cookers consist of a thin layer of metal that covers the top of the ceramic glass or heat-resistant glass cooktop. As the name suggests, this equipment also cannot be painted. All faults that arise during the operation of the stove are eliminated only by replacing the hob.Paints applied to a ceramic surface do not penetrate the structure of the material and begin to peel off soon enough.

Appropriate painting

When choosing paint for a gas or electric stove, it is recommended to consider the following nuances:

  1. The material should be heat resistant. Dyes used in metal processing are recommended for gas equipment.
  2. It is not recommended to use spray guns to paint the slab due to the small treatment area. In this case, aerosol formulations produced in cans should be used.
  3. For coloring the hob, compositions that can withstand a temperature rise of up to 70 degrees are suitable. It is not worth buying finishing materials with a higher refractory index.
  4. Heat-resistant dyes should be used for parts that constantly experience temperature fluctuations. The rest of the slab (side walls, etc.) can be treated with weaker compounds.

General paint requirements for this equipment include the following characteristics:

  • lack of toxic components that are released when heated;
  • resistance to moisture and detergents;
  • increased wear resistance;
  • not prone to fading.

The tile should be painted in accordance with the instructions for use of a particular composition. In particular, it is important to consider the drying time of the material.

Surface preparation

Prepare the surface before painting the board. For this you need:

  1. Remove the old paint layer using metal bristle drills. After that, cracks and chips should be repaired.
  2. Degrease the surface if the old paint remains intact. This must be done, since traces of contamination reduce the adhesion of the applied composition to the metal. That is, the paint laid on traces of grease will begin to flake off over time.
  3. Turn off the gas and turn off the burners. This is done in order to exclude the ingress of the coloring composition inside the nozzles. Otherwise, the stove will have to be repaired by changing the internal parts.
  4. Seal part of the plate with adhesive tape. This is done in cases where the board is painted in several colors.

It is recommended to use special compounds for degreasing the panel. However, alcohol and gasoline also contribute.

How to paint well at home

It is recommended to use aerosol compositions for painting the plates. Such materials are easy to use and speed up work. The slab painting algorithm is as follows:

  1. Through ventilation is created in the room in which the painting is made. This is necessary because the composition of the materials used contains components that are harmful to the body.
  2. The first coat of paint is applied. The container must be kept at a distance of 20 centimeters from the surface to be treated. If several colors are applied, the distance near the border should be reduced by 10 centimeters. This allows you to achieve the most even transition between shades.
  3. After five minutes, a second coat is applied.

When painting boards, do not apply less than two coats. Otherwise, the material will not gain sufficient strength, which will require repeating the procedure. If necessary, you can apply three coats to make the color richer.

The boards can also be painted with brushes. However, in this case, it is more difficult to obtain an even and uniform layer. Therefore, brushes are usually used to decorate the device and apply intricate patterns.

It is possible to connect the stove to the gas line and start the fire only after the applied composition has completely dried. The duration of this process is indicated on the tin with the dye composition.

Do-it-yourself gas grill restoration

The gas grill is heated to the highest possible temperatures. Heat resistant paints are used to paint this piece. Such compositions must withstand heating up to 1000 degrees.

Usually the same paints are used for processing the gas grill as for finishing the gas stove. In this case, it is recommended to carry out the procedure outdoors or in a room with forced ventilation. The gas grill should be placed on newspaper or plastic wrap. Due to the fact that this part has a compact design with many hard-to-reach places, painting should be done with a brush, also applying at least two layers.

However, gas grills are generally not handled in this way. These board components are made of cast iron, a durable material that can withstand extreme temperature swings. In order to renew the gas grill, carbon deposits are usually removed with suitable detergents.
