Technical characteristics of enamel KO-811 and scope, its storage

During operation, metal structures are exposed to various factors that reduce the service life of the product. This includes temperature drops, rainfall and more. To protect metal structures from the effects of such factors, KO-811 enamel is used, which prevents the appearance of corrosion on the material.

Description and technical characteristics of enamel

Enamel KO-811 is a suspension based on silicone varnish, which is additionally mixed with coloring pigments, which give the composition the required shade. There is also a modification of KO-811K, which differs from the indicated one in that it has a two-component composition. That is, this enamel must be mixed with a stabilizer before starting work.

This suspension is used to protect metal structures from the adverse effects of the environment and temperatures from -60 to +400 degrees (a number of modifications - up to +500 degrees).

Among the characteristics of enamel are the following:

  1. The product is resistant to contact with oil and aggressive substances (gasoline and others).
  2. Protects the treated structure from the effects of high humidity.
  3. The viscosity is 12 to 20 units at room temperature. This function allows you to apply the enamel using spray guns.
  4. After drying, it forms a uniform protective layer no more than three millimeters thick. Thanks to this, enamel can be used for painting compact products.
  5. Heat resistance appears within five hours after the temperature reaches critical values.
  6. The dried coating is impact and pressure resistant.

Among the advantages of enamel is its low consumption: 100 grams of product are needed for 1 m2. This material can be applied in high humidity conditions.

Paint application spheres

KO-811 Enamel is used to protect aluminum and titanium products that are exposed to extreme stress. However, this product can be used to paint products such as steel fences, gates, etc.

Color pallet

The palette of shades of enamel KO-811 includes red, black and green colors. If it is necessary to paint the product in other colors, it is recommended to pay attention to the modification of KO-811K.

How to use correctly

In order for the surface to be painted to acquire the previously described properties, several rules for using KO-811 enamel must be observed. To do this, stir the original composition until homogeneous and leave for at least 10 minutes, during which time the remaining small particles will dissolve. Then you need to add (30-40% by volume) xylene or toluene.

If KO-811K enamel is used, then add 50% (for white paint) or 70-80% (for other types) stabilizer.

The prepared solution should be used within 24 hours. To determine the degree of viscosity, it is recommended to take a special device.If the mixture does not meet the parameters specified in the quality certificate, the dried surface will not achieve the required strength.

You need to apply the composition to a previously prepared surface.To do this, first of all, the remnants of old paint, rust, scale and other contaminants are removed from the structure. It is recommended to use a grinder or other tools for cleaning. At the end of the work, apply a rust converter.

Then, using acetone or other similar compounds, you need to degrease the surface. For external work, no more than a day should pass after the last procedure, for internal work - at least 6 hours. Dry the surface before painting.

It is recommended to apply enamel at humidity up to 80% and at temperatures from -30 to +40 degrees. You need to paint in 2 or more layers, waiting each time for the previous one to dry. When carrying out such work, several recommendations must be taken into account:

  • difficult areas (joints, inaccessible and others) are treated with a brush;
  • keep the spray gun nozzle from the surface to be treated at a distance of 200-300 millimeters;
  • each layer is applied 2-3 hours after the previous one (at negative temperatures, the interval should be doubled).

Enamel acquires the desired properties in three stages. The layer dries 2 hours after application. Then comes the stage of polymerization. At the end, after a day, the top layer dries completely. To speed up this process, it is recommended to turn on a heat gun capable of heating processed products up to 200 degrees. In this case, the surface dries completely in two hours.

Precautionary measures

As noted, before use, the enamel is mixed with solvents, which belong to the third class of danger to human health. This means that when painting surfaces with such material, you must wear personal protective equipment (masks, respirators, gloves).

It is also recommended to carry out work in a ventilated place or outdoors.

Also, solvents should not be used near fire. To avoid negative consequences, it is recommended to keep nearby sand, asbestos rags or any other material with which you can extinguish the flame in the event of a mixture fire.

Storage conditions

KO-811 enamel should be stored in a tightly closed container away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Under these conditions, the product retains its original properties for one year from the date of manufacture.
