Composition and technical characteristics of paint AK-511, rules of use

AK-511 substance is a narrow profile compound used for marking on public roads. This material, due to the peculiarities of the scope of application, is characterized by increased resistance to mechanical stress and atmospheric precipitation. Unlike other paints, AK-511 has a narrow color palette. This is also due to the field of application of the material.

Composition and characteristics

AK-511 paint is an enamel based on acrylic copolymer, which is combined with modifying additives. These include solid particles of color (pigment). Along with this enamel are xiol and toluene, which act as solvents.

Among the characteristics of the paint are the following:

  • remains visible to drivers when the road is lit at night;
  • dries in half an hour;
  • adheres well to the surface (asphalt, concrete, etc.);
  • good wear resistance;
  • maintains integrity during extreme temperatures.

The enamel contains special glass beads which give the road marking reflective properties. At the same time, after drying, the paint forms a homogeneous semi-matt film on the asphalt.

If necessary, in production, the composition is mixed with other pigments that allow to obtain the desired shades. This material has strict requirements for storage and transportation.In particular, it is important to observe the specified temperature regime and humidity.

Apps

AK-511 paint is used exclusively for road marking. But due to the peculiarities of the composition, the range is also limited. This material can be applied on roads (with moderate to heavy traffic) made of cement concrete or asphalt concrete. Also, markings with this paint are applied in parking lots, areas near warehouses and runways.

Advantages and disadvantages

road painting

AK-511 enamel is characterized by the following advantages:

  • resistance to mechanical stress, contact with gasoline, fuels and lubricants and other aggressive substances;
  • high level of luminosity (remains visible in all weather conditions for 24 hours after application);
  • washing fastness;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • characteristics do not change when exposed to ultraviolet radiation;
  • fast drying speed.

The characteristics of the material (wear resistance, etc.) directly depend on the type of additional components added to the original composition (sand, reagents and others).To apply this enamel, specialized equipment is required.

Terms of use

AK-511 paint can be used at temperatures from +5 to +30 degrees and humidity not exceeding 80%. It is allowed to apply the composition to a previously prepared surface. To do this, the asphalt is cleaned of sand, dirt, oil and grease, and then dried.

The viscosity of the paint is checked before application. If this indicator is overestimated, solvents are added to the original composition (R-5A is more often used). If necessary, enamel is mixed with quartz sand with a grain size of three millimeters or more, which improves the wear resistance of road markings. In addition, the concentration of this component should not exceed 10% of the enamel volume.

The paint is applied by airless spray. The device should be kept at a distance of 20 to 30 centimeters from the roadway. Usually the paint is applied in 1 or 2 layers. The material consumption for this use is 400-600 grams per square meter.

In some cases, brushes or rollers are used instead of this equipment. Additionally, if necessary, the paint is applied with a hand sprayer. But in each of the above cases, it is more difficult to create a straight and long markup. If it is necessary to improve the reflective properties of road markings, after applying the paint for 10 seconds, a layer of special granules is applied on top. These reduce material consumption by 2 times.

AK-511 paint can be used at temperatures from +5 to +30 degrees and humidity not exceeding 80%.

Subject to the rules above, road markings retain all operational characteristics. Otherwise, the indicators of resistance of the marking to environmental influences are reduced.The passage for vehicles is open 20-30 minutes after the application of the markup.

Precautionary measures

AK-511 paint is a toxic material classified in the third class of danger. This is explained by the fact that before use, the enamel is mixed with solvents, which quickly evaporate in the air.

Therefore, when working with this composition, you must wear a respirator, gloves and protective glasses.

It is forbidden to apply paint near open sources of fire. This is also due to the presence of flammable solvents in the enamel. If material ignites, extinguish fire area with sand, water, foam or asbestos.

Analogs

The main analogue of AK-511 enamel is AK-505 paint. The two compositions differ from each other in the degree of covering power, the level of viscosity and a number of other characteristics. You can also replace the AK-511 with:

  • enamel "Line" (used on roads with heavy traffic);
  • acrylic painting "Turn";
  • "Line-M" acrylic enamel;
  • "Line-Aero" (used on airfields);
  • fluorescent enamel AK-5173.

The above information shows that AK-511 paint is a versatile material used for various purposes. Analogs of this composition are distinguished by a more limited scope of application.

Storage conditions

It is necessary to store AK-511 paint in dark rooms, away from heat sources. The material in a closed container retains its operational characteristics at temperatures from -30 to +40 degrees. Subject to these conditions, the shelf life of enamel does not exceed six months.
