Varieties of Methylane adhesives, how to properly dilute and instructions for use

Methylene glue contains several components, each of which reliably adheres to the material on the surface. Thanks to this feature, this material qualitatively fixes the canvases. And due to the fact that there are more than five varieties of methylan on the market, the glue can be used for various wallpapers (including those intended for painting). This does not change the quality of the binding.

General description and purpose

Metylan is a wallpaper paste available in the form of a soluble powder. The material included:

  • methylcellulose (modified starch);
  • reinforcing components;
  • additives that prevent the appearance of fungus.

Methylcellulose provides better adhesion than starch. This substance does not emit an odor, withstands exposure to negative temperatures and allows adjustment of the wallpaper within 15 minutes after gluing.

Methylene can be combined with a variety of materials including cement and lime. This glue is supplemented with a color indicator, thanks to which the uniformity of the application of the layer can be checked.

Composition and properties of various varieties

As stated, Methylane is based on modified starch.But due to the additives that the manufacturer includes in the glue, this product can be applied on the following types of wallpaper:

  • vinyl;
  • nonwoven;
  • glass wallpaper;
  • paper;
  • heavy structured.

In this regard, the manufacturer produces several types of methylan, each of which is used for gluing specific wallpapers.

Premium express nonwoven

This type of methylane is used for gluing non-woven wallpaper. An important feature of this type of material is that the diluted powder can be applied directly to the walls.

This type of methylane is used for gluing non-woven wallpaper.

ultra non woven

This wallpaper paste is used for the same purposes as the previous one. The difference between the materials is that the nonwoven hardens ultra faster.

Top quality pellets

Premium granulate is available as granules, which must also be diluted before application. This type of Methylane is used for gluing heavy wallpapers: coarse fibers, metallic and others. The premium granulate, thanks to its particular particle shape, is easier to dose, thus reducing material consumption.

Prime break

The universal adhesive is suitable for all types of wallpaper. This type of methylane has a pasty consistency, which facilitates the process of applying the material to the substrate. The open premium wagon can be stored for a long time.

premium fiberglass

This type of methylane is used for glass wallpaper and other types of finishing materials. Glue is also used in rooms with high humidity. After drying, the composition is able to withstand repeated surface stains. Methylene of this type adheres to wallpaper, even cement or lime.

premium vinyl

Methylane for vinyl wallpaper comes in powder form and has the same properties as other types of specialist glues.

For the joints

A specialized type of methylane, created for pasting wallpaper and fixing seams. This composition is distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • suitable for bonding vinyl and plastic;
  • tolerates exposure to high temperatures, due to which it is used for gluing wallpaper behind batteries;
  • is available in a compact 60 gram package.

Methylane comes with a joint spatula, with which you can evenly apply the glue even in hard-to-reach places.

Manual

The rules for using glue are indicated on the packaging. The proportions in which the Methylane must be diluted with water are also given.

How to breed

To dilute methylane, you need to pour the powder into a container and slowly introduce water, constantly stirring the composition. As soon as the glue acquires a uniform structure, the resulting mass should be left for 15-20 minutes.

After that, the composition should be re-mixed and applied to the prepared surface.

The ratio of glue to water is determined according to the type of Methylane:

  • for paper wallpapers - 1h30;
  • for vinyl or non-woven - 1:20;
  • for deep relief nonwovens (Methylane Express premium or Flizelin ultra is recommended) - 1:18;
  • for fiberglass - 1: 8.

If a liquid concentrate is used instead of a powder, the ratio of glue and water should be reduced by 2-3 times.

To dilute methylane, you need to pour the powder into a container and slowly introduce water, constantly stirring the composition.

How to paste

Before applying the diluted mixture, the surface must be cleaned of dirt and dust, then dried. In addition, the walls are recommended to be treated with a primer.This must be done to prevent the formation of fungus. The place where the adhesive should be applied (on walls or wallpaper) is indicated on the packaging.

If the first option is chosen, it is recommended to use a roller to create an even layer. The thickness of the solution should not exceed two millimeters. The methylene should be applied so that the glue extends slightly beyond the edges of the tape. This allows the wallpaper to move sideways and level.

After gluing, you need to run your hand along the canvas, removing the formed air bubbles. When cutting the wallpaper, you need to leave 5 centimeters above and below. The excess part of the canvas can be cut off after gluing. Excess glue should be removed immediately with a cloth or sponge.

Advantages and disadvantages

Methylane, in comparison with other adhesives used for wallpapering, has the following positive characteristics:

  • profitability;
  • when preparing the solution, lumps do not appear;
  • does not emit odor and does not contain toxic substances;
  • does not leave stains and streaks;
  • provides durable fixation of wallpaper on various surfaces;
  • the solution is stored unopened for 10 days;
  • you can correct the seams after gluing;
  • provides a secure hold of thick wallpaper, including on the ceiling;
  • suitable for gluing on plaster.

The disadvantage of Methylane is that it is too expensive. When applied to the wall, the glue dries quickly, so it is necessary to immediately correct the position of the wallpaper. Also, once purchased, Methylane must be used within two years, while other similar products can be used after five years.

How to calculate consumption

The consumption of methylene depends on the type of glue chosen, the method of application and the technical characteristics of the wallpaper. Therefore, the amount of material should be calculated taking into account the purpose for which the glue is acquired. On average, one package is enough to glue 28-32 square meters if methylane is applied to wallpaper. The composition with which the walls are covered is consumed in a smaller volume.
