Repair instructions for a scrubber drier and when to return to service
Scrubber driers are constantly exposed to moisture, harsh chemicals and other external factors during operation. This causes internal parts to wear out over time. But, despite the complexity of the design, in some cases it is possible to abandon the specialized repair of floor cleaning machines and eliminate malfunctions on their own.
Major breakdowns of cleaning equipment
To understand the causes of breakdowns, it is necessary to consider the principle of operation of floor cleaning machines. Such equipment works according to the following scheme: the motor drives the rotating brushes, which are supplied with water from a tank mixed with a cleaning agent. Moisture is evenly distributed across the floor as the machine moves forward. The contaminated water is then evacuated using a scraper located at the rear and sucked into a special tank by a vacuum pump.
In some models, the cleaning solution reservoirs are combined in a single housing. This design increases cleaning equipment maintenance costs.
Basically, the following malfunctions are detected in floor cleaning machines:
- The brushes have stopped spinning. This happens when the drive mechanism breaks down, which often requires its replacement with a new one.
- Interruptions or breaks in the supply of detergent solution. This problem occurs due to contamination of the corresponding pipe. In such cases, it is enough to clean the pipe.
- Low suction rate of dirty solution from floor. This "symptom" indicates a failure of the associated motor that powers the pump. Replacement of the part will be necessary if the motor is burnt out.
- The vacuum or brush drive mechanisms have ceased to turn off. This problem is caused by malfunctions in the electronic control unit.
- The battery has stopped charging. The battery also needs to be replaced.
During the operation of floor cleaning machines, other malfunctions occur, some of which can be eliminated on your own.
What can be fixed by yourself
Cleaning equipment is distinguished by its complex design and the presence of an electronic control unit. Repairing parts of these devices requires specialized knowledge. Therefore, troubleshooting yourself is not recommended.
Self-repair instructions
There are several typical breakdowns that are eliminated without the involvement of third-party specialists. If the machine stops working, you should:
- Turn the ignition key again.
- Check the battery charge level.
- Check if the battery wires are connected.
If the equipment stops moving, then you will need:
- Move the drive selector lever out of neutral and indicate direction.
- Move the equipment to a flat surface. Scrubber driers stop working if they are tilted too much.
- Turn off the equipment and wait at least five minutes. This will be necessary in cases where the built-in thermal protection has been triggered.
In addition, a sudden shutdown of the device can be caused by discharged batteries. If the brushes stop rotating, then you should:
- Turn off the machine for 5-10 minutes. This will be necessary in the event of overheating of the electric motor or tripping of the thermal protection.
- Check the condition of the brushes. The lack of twist may be due to debris trapped in the mechanism and burnt wiring.
- Place the machine on a flat surface.
- Check the condition of the drive belt and, if necessary, replace the part.
If no cleaning solution is provided, you must:
- Check the solution level in the tank.
- Clean the waste water tank and fill with fresh solution into a suitable container.
- Open the solution flow control valve.
- Clean the detergent supply hoses.
There are several reasons for the low suction power. Some breakdowns with similar consequences cannot be eliminated on their own. In the event of a reduction in the suction power of dirty water, it is necessary to:
- Check the correct connection of the hose to the vacuum bar.
- Clean the pipes from dirt.
- Clean the tank with a contaminated solution.
- Close the cover.
- Check battery connection and motor operation.
If there is still moisture or dirt stains on the floor after the machine has passed, clean the vacuum bar or check that this part is correctly installed.
In which cases it is worth contacting specialists
As noted, it is possible to independently repair breakdowns of cleaning equipment, provided that the defects do not affect electric motors and other important components. In the event of a malfunction in the motor, battery or electronic control unit, you should contact a specialist. In particular, such assistance will be necessary when the built-in batteries are not fully charged.
Scrubber driers don't break down right away. Serious problems are usually preceded by signals warning of an impending malfunction. These may be changes in the nature of the device's operation (new sounds, irregular movements, etc.). In such situations, it is recommended to carry out a complete diagnosis of the equipment in order to avoid costly repairs.
