Technical characteristics of Ceresit ST-19 Betonkontakt primer
On concrete, as on other materials, with constant contact with water and regular temperature changes, mold appears over time. However, this base has a structure that complicates the application of formulations that protect against external factors. To prevent the appearance of mold on concrete is capable of the brand "Betonkontakt ST-19" "Ceresit", the technical characteristics of which correspond to the characteristics of this material.

The composition and technical characteristics of the Ceresit primer "Betonkontakt ST-19"
The basis of "Betonkontakt" consists of the following components:
- mineral fillers;
- Quartz sand;
- water-dispersed acrylic copolymers;
- pigments.
Due to the fact that the primer does not contain solvents, this material is not hazardous to human health and does not ignite when in contact with open fire.
Betonkontakt has the following characteristics:
- Pink color;
- appearance - homogeneous thick liquid;
- density - 1.5 kg / dm3;
- storage temperature - 5-35 degrees;
- permissible application temperature - 5-30 degrees;

"Betonkontakt" from the "Winter" series allows transport and storage at temperatures down to -40 degrees. The primer retains its declared characteristics after five freeze/thaw cycles.
Certificate of conformity
"Betonkontakt" complies with GOST requirements for such primers. This is confirmed by the official certificate issued to the manufacturer.
Packing and Release Form
"Betonkontakt" is produced in polymer buckets. The volume of the material varies from five to 15 liters.
Color pallet
"Betonkontakt" is distinguished by a pink tint, which acts as an indicator allowing you to control the thickness and uniformity of the application of the primer layer. The mix is not available in other colors.
Cost and storage features
Material prices depend on both volume and type of additives. "Betonkontakt" from the "Winter" series costs 1.3 thousand rubles. A 3-kilogram container of a mixture designed to work in the warm season costs less than 400 rubles.
It is recommended to store the material without opening the packaging, out of direct sunlight. Store the mixture in a cool, low humidity environment. Under such conditions, the material is stored for a year after release. "Betonkontakt" from the "Winter" series, as noted earlier, can be frozen five times. In addition, the duration of this cycle should not exceed two weeks.
Purpose and properties of soil
The primer is used to increase adhesion even on substrates that do not absorb moisture (concrete or reinforced concrete).The mixture contains quartz sand, due to which a rough film appears after solidification of the material."Betonkontakt" is used for surface preparation for:
- The painting;
- putty;
- tiled covering;
- cement-sand plaster.
In addition to the indicated bases, "Betonkontakt" can be applied to:
- plasterboard and particle board;
- ceramic tiles;
- cement-sand base;
- cement-lime plaster.
"Betonkontakt" is distinguished by the following characteristics:
- improves the adhesion of the finishing material (paint, gypsum plaster or cement mixture) to the base;
- creates a vapor permeable layer;
- suitable for indoor and outdoor work;
- environmentally friendly, non-toxic.
The material is produced in the form of a ready-to-use mixture.
Advantages and disadvantages of the material
Among the advantages of this primer are the following:
- respect the environment;
- lack of solvents in the composition;
- increased adhesion to porous and dense substrates;
- the presence of a color indicator which makes it possible to control the thickness of the layer;
- dries quickly (up to three hours);
- can be used at low temperatures ("Winter" series).
Despite the declared characteristics, "Betonkontakt" is often replaced by other universal primers. This is explained by the overestimated consumption of material, therefore you will have to purchase a mixture worth up to 300 rubles to process one square meter.
Application rules
Instructions for use of "ST-19" from "Ceresit" indicate all the rules for applying the material. Difficulties in working with this composition usually do not arise. The mixture is applied according to the same rules as the paint. But when processing surfaces with "Betonkontakt" a number of conditions must be observed, on which the service life and other characteristics of the protective layer depend.
Calculation of material consumption
On average, 300-750 grams of "ST-19" from "Ceresit" are needed to process 1 m2. This parameter depends on the characteristics of the base, the thickness of the applied layer and the ability of the treated material to absorb solutions.
To simplify the calculation of primer mix consumption, you can use the table:
Area (in m2) | Primer consumption (in grams) |
1 | 520 |
3 | 1560 |
5 | 2600 |
10 | 5200 |
20 | 10400 |
25 | 13000 |
30 | 15600 |
That is, for surface treatment with an area of 5-5 m2, a container "ST-19" from "Ceresit" is required for 5 kilograms.
Tools required
It is impossible to apply "ST-19" from "Ceresit" with a roller. To do this, use a brush with a diameter of 120 millimeters. You can also treat the surface with "Concrete Contact" using a soft brush.
To prepare the base on which the primer will be applied, you will need:
- solvents;
- "Whiteness" or blowtorch (to remove fungus);
- metal bristle brush;
- broom.
Preparing the surface and the working solution
To achieve optimal adhesion of "Betonkonta" to the treated base, the surface must be:
- clean from dirt and dust;
- remove oily stains (with a solvent);
- remove paint drips and peeling plaster;
- clean the fungus.
If fungus or mold is detected, it is recommended to first treat the surface with a wire brush or soldering iron, and then cover it with an antiseptic solution. If necessary, the latter can be added to the "CT-19" solution from "Ceresit". This will prevent mold from reappearing.
If pits, cracks and other defects are found, the surface must be puttied.At the end of this procedure, it is necessary to wait 3 days so that the applied material acquires sufficient strength and does not peel off during the application of the primer.
At the end of the preparatory stage, the concrete base must be dried. It is forbidden to apply "Betonkontakt" on a wet surface.
This primer is ready to use. But, due to the fact that sediment can form over time, it is recommended to stir "Betonkontakt" before use, and then pour it into a prepared container.
Primer application technique
Primer "Betonkontakt" is applied according to the same rules as other similar mixtures. A brush or a soft brush (sponge) should be dipped in the solution, and then treated with the prepared surface. Apply primer evenly. If this rule is not followed, paint and other finishing materials applied from above will not adhere well.
The number of layers is determined by the area of application and the tasks that are solved using "Betonkontakt". Usually a single primer of the substrate is sufficient to improve adhesion. But if necessary, you can apply 2 layers of protection. In this case, the consumption of finishing materials will decrease.
It is recommended to apply a primer in two coats on surfaces regularly exposed to external influences. In particular, this must be done when processing the floor in a garage or other rooms with active traffic and increased loads on the base.
Drying time
The drying time of the primer depends on the working conditions. On average, this process takes 1-3 hours at a temperature of 20 degrees or more. If necessary, you can speed up the drying process by turning on the heat gun in the room. However, it is recommended to wait until the mixture has completely solidified.Fluctuations in temperature can adversely affect the curing process of the primer.
Possible errors when using "ST-19" from "Ceresit"
Errors that occur when using this primer are mainly due to non-compliance with the rules of application. In particular, the preparation of the base under the protective layer is not carried out. Because of this, the primer does not penetrate deep enough into the structure of the material, and in some cases, due to dirt or defects, part of the base remains untreated. In such situations, visible stains appear after applying the paint.
Another common mistake - "ST-19" from "Ceresit" is applied with a roller. This tool speeds up the processing of the string. However, a brush or soft brush should be used to evenly distribute the primer over the surface. When applied with a roller, voids remain, into which the protective solution did not penetrate.
Also, it is forbidden to dilute the "ST-19" from "Ceresit" with water. In the case of priming a wet surface, the composition does not acquire sufficient strength and does not acquire the specified characteristics. Adding a small amount of water increases the drying time of the protective layer up to six hours.
Security measures
Ceresit "CT-19" primer is not harmful to the body. Therefore, it is possible to treat surfaces with this composition without resorting to protective equipment. However, it is recommended to wear gloves because contact with the skin can trigger an allergic reaction.
Also, the primer should not be allowed to enter the body. Also, the mortar should be kept away from heat sources, otherwise the mixture will harden.
Recommendations from the masters
When processing a large concrete base, it is recommended to periodically stir the primer. Thanks to this, the composition will be constantly homogeneous.
"Betonkontakt" should not be applied to concrete substrates through which moisture appears. Although the material is considered water resistant, such exposure can cause the primer and finish to peel.
If an excessive amount of solution is applied, the excess or stains are removed with a solvent. In this case, the mechanical cleaning method is not used due to the high resistance of the protective layer to such an effect.
It is recommended to use an open container with "Betonkontakt" within a week. At the end of the specified period, the mixture begins to lose the specified characteristics.
Only "Betonkontakt" from the "Winter" series can be frozen. Other types of this primer, after such exposure, lose their original characteristics.
