Technical characteristics of XB-124 enamel in accordance with GOST 10144 89 and consumption per 1m2
Heat, cold and humidity damage metal exterior structures. Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride is a substance resistant to atmospheric changes. It is the main component of enamels with the XB designation. The main purpose of XB-124 enamel is the primer for metal and wood. It is used as an anti-corrosion, waterproof and decorative coating.
General description of the painting
The composition has a viscous consistency and provides strong adhesion to the surface. Thanks to the polyvinyl chloride resin, after drying, a durable layer is formed that can withstand extremely low air temperatures. Before painting the iron parts, a special primer is applied. On wooden products, enamel is applied without a primer. The coating does not let moisture through, so the metal underneath does not rust and the wood does not swell. Enamel is poured into buckets and metal containers. The surface dries in 24 hours. The thickened composition is diluted with chemical solvents.
The duration of the protective properties of XB-124:
- in arctic cold conditions - four years;
- in hot tropical climates, with intense ultraviolet irradiation - three years;
- in latitudes with a temperate climate - six years.
Analogs of ХВ-124 enamel are perchlorovinyl paints with any ХВ marking. In terms of decorative and anti-corrosion properties, XB-1100 enamel is the closest. It forms a stronger and more durable coating. Domestic brands are interchanged with imported brands.

The resistance of the coating is maintained during the day under the static action of technical oil, gasoline and soda ash. Industrial paint contains flammable and toxic solvents, lead compounds of the first to fourth class of danger:
- acetone;
- butyl acetate;
- xylene;
- toluene;
- ethyl acetate;
- sovol.
The composition also contains alkyd resins, pigments and a plasticizer. Protective and gray paints are produced according to the state standard. Distributors offer custom colors. The range of manufacturers includes green and blue enamel.
Apps
Perchlorovinyl paint is used in the following industries:
- repair and construction;
- mechanical Engineering;
- instrumentation;
- construction of bridges, external steel and reinforced concrete structures;
- assembly of military equipment.
The composition is intended for outdoor use, but also covers structures inside technical rooms. The coating protects wooden buildings from mold. XB-124 frost-resistant enamel with reinforcing properties is indispensable in the construction of residential and industrial buildings in the Far North.
Advantages and disadvantages
The solution forms a solid coating on an absolutely flat surface, but in places cracks with defects.
Application rules
Optimal conditions for working with XB-124 enamel:
- ambient and surface temperature - from +10 to +40 degrees;
- humidity - 80% and less.
The coating is applied in three coats in temperate and cold climates. In tropical latitudes, four coats are required.
Coaching
Wooden surfaces are cleaned of dust and sanded. How to prepare a metal surface:
- clean rust, scale with emery to make shine and uniform roughness;
- degrease with white spirit;
- cover with a primer.
Before priming, it is advisable to check the degree of degreasing of the surface using filter paper - a dirty surface will leave a mark on it.To remove rust, depending on the degree and extent of corrosion, use a wire brush, grinding disc or sandblaster.
For priming on metal, VL, AK, FL compositions are used. The enamel is combined with the GF-021 coating. A versatile glyphthal primer that bonds firmly to the surface, suitable for exterior and interior use in temperate climates. In cold climates, floors are laid AK-70, VL-02. The surface is ready to paint once it is completely dry.
The compatibility of primer and enamel is checked before painting the object, especially when using compounds from different manufacturers, in order to avoid damage to the coating and loss.
Application
After opening the box, the enamel is stirred until homogeneous and left for 10 minutes so that the bubbles leave the surface. The following layers are applied after the previous ones have completely dried.
Brushes or rollers are used to paint iron bars, shelves, frames, small metal and wooden surfaces. It is recommended to spray enamel onto a large reinforced concrete surface from a pneumatic or airless installation. Pneumatic Device Spray Parameters:
- distance to the surface - 20-30 centimeters;
- pressure - 1.5-2.5 kilogram-force per square centimeter;
- nozzle diameter - 1.8-2.5 mm.
The parameters are adjusted according to the type of installation and the density of the mixture. Solder joints, edges, inner corners and hard-to-reach places are additionally painted with a brush after spraying.
Drying
The first coat dries in two hours. At low temperatures, the interval between applications is 30 minutes. To speed up the drying of the coating, a soapy solution is added to the composition before painting.
How to correctly calculate the flow
When calculating the amount of paint, the following parameters are taken into account:
- climate;
- the consistency of the composition;
- type of plinth;
- area;
- method of application;
- layer thickness.
In hot climates, four layers of enamel are applied, so consumption will increase by a third. When spraying per square meter of area, 130 grams of liquid composition are consumed. To paint with a roller or a brush, do not dilute the solution. Thicker enamel is used - 170 grams per square meter.
The nominal consumption of the mixture with a layer thickness of 18-23 micrometers is 115-145 grams per square meter.
The wood is unprimed and porous fibers absorb more mortar than dense metal. Therefore, when painting wooden surfaces, the consumption of enamel will increase. When an inexperienced painter performs a job, the risk of technological losses also increases.
Dilution
For spraying, the enamel is diluted to a liquid consistency with RFG, R-4A solvents. Acetone, solvent and toluene are used to dilute the thickened compound and clean the instruments. The permissible solvent content is 30 percent of the total weight.
Precautions for work
Safety precautions when working with perchlorovinyl enamel:
- wear gloves, a respirator, goggles, in a closed room - a gas mask;
- do not leave an open container near sources of fire;
- use tools made of fireproof material;
- do not create sparks, do not smoke near the work area;
- have the means to extinguish a fire;
- rinse the composition with plenty of water and soap if it comes into contact with the skin.
When painting parts in a room, open windows and doors for intensive ventilation. The ignited mixture is extinguished with a foam or carbon dioxide fire extinguisher, and covered with sand.
Storage conditions and periods
XB-124 enamel is stored in a tightly closed container at temperatures from -30 to +30 degrees in a dark, dry place, away from heaters and heaters. Manufacturers warrant the suitability of the sealed can composition for twelve months from date of manufacture.
