Description and technical characteristics of Uranium glue, rules of use

Unlike other adhesives, "Uranus" belongs to a group of specialized compounds that are used when working with certain materials. This product does not contain ingredients harmful to health. But in case of damage to the seam, which is formed after gluing with "Uranus", acetone vapors are released into the air. This composition creates a strong connection that can withstand increased loads.

Description and particularities of the adhesive

Glue "Uranus" is a one-component composition based on polyurethane. The main purpose of the product is to secure elastic materials. The glue is made of synthetic polyurethane rubber, which is mixed with additional components dissolved in acetone and ethyl acetate.

Uranium has the following properties:

  • transparent, with a pinkish or yellow tint;
  • homogeneous structure;
  • solidifies exclusively in contact with air.

Uranus glue hardens quickly. A firm bond is achieved within seconds of application. But it takes at least a day to completely dry the product. These shades disappear after the adhesive hardens. The seam created with this product remains elastic, which is why this material is used in shoemaking. In contact with water, the bond strength decreases by 20%.

Uranus glue is available in various containers.On sale there are both tubes of 45 milliliters and large buckets of 1, 20 and 200 liters.

Features

Glue "Uranus" creates a compound capable of withstanding a load of up to 5-6 kilonewtons per meter. In addition, this indicator depends on the type of material on which the composition is applied. If "Uranus" is used for gluing polyurethane or leather, then the strength of the joint created reaches 2-3 kilonewtons per meter.

The total viscosity of the product is 200 s. The dry residue does not represent more than 18% by weight of the product. Because the glue dries quickly on contact with air, this product can be stored closed. If this condition is met, "Uranus" remains usable for two years from the date of issue.

What materials to use

Uranus glue is mainly used to join PVC and polyurethane. Additionally, this product is able to create strong seams on:

  • rubberized materials;
  • artificial or natural leather;
  • fabric products;
  • plexiglass products;
  • thermoplastic elastomer (TPE);
  • plastic (except polyethylene).

In order to achieve a strong connection, it is recommended to clarify before buying "Uranus" what materials this product is purchased for gluing.

Advantages and disadvantages of the product

Uranus glue was originally created to work with polyurethane. But, despite this, as mentioned above, the composition is able to create compounds with other materials. The advantages of this product are:

  • increased water resistance, due to which the adhesive can be used to repair the soles of demi-season shoes;
  • the created seam is elastic and colorless;
  • sets quickly;
  • suitable for household repair of various items;
  • does not deform the product after application and curing;
  • does not harm the appearance of the glued product;
  • creates a reliable connection that can withstand increased loads;
  • does not harm the human body after solidification.

Glue "Uranus" has found its application in household repair and construction. Skirting boards and other polyurethane products can be attached to this composition. Also, the glue is suitable for repairing:

  • soles and heels;
  • Bags;
  • belts;
  • household appliances;
  • inflatable boats and other products.

The main disadvantage of the adhesive composition is that the product remains toxic until it dries completely. Therefore, when working with Uranus, it is recommended to wear personal protective equipment. In addition, the glue is "afraid" of contact with open fire. Until complete solidification, this composition is flammable and flammable.

How to use correctly

Despite the fact that it is quite simple to use Uranus glue, when using this composition you need to follow a number of rules:

  • It is recommended to apply at a temperature of +17 degrees and a relative humidity of 80% (in such conditions, the most durable connection is created);
  • do not use to bond polyethylene products;
  • before each use, it is necessary to degrease the surface to increase adhesion;
  • do not apply the composition to metal products, since the glue has a low level of adhesion to such material;
  • it is necessary to glue objects in well-ventilated areas;
  • avoid contact of the adhesive with mucous membranes and skin.

It is recommended to store uranium glue at temperatures from -30 to +30 degrees. Under other conditions, the composition begins to crystallize. However, after curing, you can restore the previous properties of this product.To do this, simply open the tube and leave the glue for a day at room temperature.

When working with this composition, do not smoke or turn on nearby heating devices with an open flame or a spiral (domestic tile, etc.). This could cause a fire. In case of contact with glue on the skin, the composition is washed off the body with the help of acetone and a large amount of water.

There are two ways to glue materials with "Uranus": hot and cold. In both cases, a seam of equal strength is created. The difference between these methods is in the working conditions and the rate of consumption of the composition. It is recommended to use a spatula, stick or brush to create an even coat.

Before starting work, it is also necessary to prepare acetone. This liquid will be needed to remove excess glue from products or skin. The surface can be degreased with acetone. If an inflatable boat is being repaired, then it is necessary to prepare a nylon thread for sewing large holes.

In some cases, before starting work, you need to sand the surface with sandpaper. This allows you to increase the level of adhesion and, accordingly, the strength of the connection. Such treatment will be particularly necessary when restoring rubberized products. When working with polyurethane, this method does not give the indicated effect.

Cold method

The cold welding method is more popular, since it does not require special preparations (except that the surface must be degreased with acetone or alcohol) and additional devices. For bonding materials, "Uranus" is applied in a thin layer and kept for two minutes.

At the end of the specified period, the two parts of the product are forcefully pressed against each other. To create a reliable connection, it is enough to hold the material for two minutes.But in order to increase the strength of the joint, it is recommended to put the product to be glued under the press for at least 6 hours. The glue hardens completely within 24 hours of application. That is to say, the repaired products cannot be used until the end of this period.

Hot method

The hot method is considered the most effective, as it allows you to quickly establish a strong connection. To glue the materials, in this case, you need to apply the prepared composition in an even layer on a degreased surface.

Then you need to warm up the product for three minutes at a temperature of 90 degrees. To do this, you can use an ordinary or construction hair dryer. This makes it possible to adjust the heating temperature more precisely. Using an ordinary hair dryer, the device should be kept for more than three minutes.

At the end of the specified period, the materials to be bonded should be pressed together and held for one minute. Then you need to let the product dry completely. This process takes no more than four hours, after which you can use the article. During this time, the heated glue acquires sufficient strength and is able to withstand the above loads.
