What can be used
The industry produces a whole arsenal of laundry detergents for hands and machines. Linen is not considered a capricious problem fabric, but properly selected detergents preserve the quality of products and extend the service life.
Plain powder for baby clothes
Powders designed for baby clothes are a good choice for washing linen. The foam is quickly washed from the fibers, the powder does not contain aggressive components that can corrode threads. You can use delicate detergents. Gels and fluids without chlorine and other strong substances are good options for linens.
Oxygen bleaches
Oxygen bleaches help restore white linen products to their original color, remove stains from colored items. Their action is gentle, they do not violate the structure of the tissue. When removing stains from colored items, the product is first checked on the most inconspicuous part of the product.
Stain removers
It is necessary to quickly remove stains from linen fabrics so that dirt does not get into the threads. The stain remover is tested on the inside seams, then the thing is thoroughly rinsed and dried. If there is no color change, the product can be used.
Stain removers are not added to the water when washing, the stains are removed directly from the thing.
air conditioners
Linen fabrics become soft and delicate after many washes. Conditioners and balms that can be used during washing help soften new linen clothes.
sodium carbonate
Sodium carbonate creates an alkaline environment in which all impurities are released from the strong linen threads. This product is especially suitable for washing linen sheets - they become snow-white. Pre-soaking helps ease the process.
laundry soap
Laundry soap is used to wash and remove stains from linen fabrics. The stain can be rubbed with soap and left for a few minutes, then rinse the item. Grated laundry soap is added to the water during washing. After washing with soap, linen becomes softer.
Potassium permanganate solution
Potassium permanganate dissolved in water in combination with laundry soap whitens yellowed linen fabrics. For 10 liters of water, take 40 grams of soap and a glass of light red potassium permanganate. Linen products are kept for 4-5 hours.
Hydrogen peroxide
Peroxide was used by our grandmothers to bleach linen fabrics. For 5 liters of hot (not boiling) water, take 2 tablespoons of peroxide and one tablespoon of ammonia. A linen thing is soaked for 30 minutes, periodically straightening it.
How to wash in a washing machine
Washing machines allow you to quickly and efficiently wash linen products. Modern machines will not damage linen if you choose the right washing mode.
Basic rules:
- linen absorbs a lot of water - you need to load the machine at 2/3 of the recommended rate;
- carefully study the composition of fabrics - choose detergents and temperature characteristics;
- do not wash colored and white linen items together.
It is best to use liquid detergents for washing linen.
Mode selection
When washing in an automatic machine, you must select the correct mode:
- delicate or hand wash;
- be sure to include an extra rinse;
- if possible, turn off the spin or reduce it to a minimum.
It is impossible to wash linen products at high speed. All things will be in the creases, which will not be easy to smooth, the clothes will lose their shape, sit down.
Temperature
When choosing a temperature, they are guided by the composition (linen may contain synthetic impurities) and the color of the fabrics:
- light and simple products are washed at a temperature of 40-60 °, even boiling is allowed;
- colored items are washed at 30-40 °.
High degrees are best used for bedding, clothes are washed at low temperatures or by hand.

What to do if there is embroidery
With contrasting embroidery in shiny thread, it is important to prevent the colors from dissolving and damaging the thing. Linen products are washed at 30°, if you use a machine, adjust gently or by hand.
When washing by hand, the item is soaked for 20 minutes in soapy water, adding one teaspoon of salt per liter of water, then gently washed.

Remove stubborn dirt at home
Before starting the wash, things are inspected in order to pre-identify contamination that might not be from simple powdered detergent. Folk and special remedies are used to remove spots. Contamination should be removed as quickly as possible, so as not to greatly damage the fabric. When removing stains, it helps to remember where they came from. This will help you choose an effective remedy.

When ironing, the fabric is pulled, trying to stretch and fix this state with an iron.
How to dry and iron
After washing, linen products are slightly stretched to smooth out the folds. It is best to dry clothes on a hanger, in an upright position, so that there is no unpleasant line from the line.Things are not exposed to the sun to avoid color changes. Choose a shady spot with good ventilation.

- dark-colored linen clothes are washed with liquid detergents, stain removers are used very carefully, rinsed thoroughly, dried only in the shade;
- in the presence of colored embroidery, it is better to dry the products in a horizontal position, placing a layer of protective fabric between the layers of linen.
