How to make starch slime at home with your own hands
Slime or slime is a popular toy for children. It's a sticky substance made from a soft jelly-like material that feels great to crinkle in your hands. The toy first appeared in the seventies of the twentieth century and was made from guar gum. There are many varieties of slime from different materials. Today we will look at how to make slime with our own hands from starch or other available household tools.
Properties, features, application
Slime is a toy that changes shape, can stick or squirt from surfaces. It is made from jelly-like materials. Over time, such a toy loses its properties. It air dries, so it is usually stored in a closed plastic box. In summer, the slime can be stored in the refrigerator, as the heat also dries out the toy.
The sludge can be prepared independently of the waste. For this, potato starch, dishwashing detergents, shaving foam, hair balm are suitable.

There are many recipes, depending on the consistency and color you want your toy to have.
With dye
The safest way to make slime is to use a recipe for making a toy from starch without tetraborate or glue. If a child accidentally swallows a toy, it will not harm his body. For the manufacture you will need heated water, the starch itself and a plate in which we will prepare the mixture. To give the slime some color, we'll use safe food coloring.
For the first step, mix the starch and water in a plate in a one to one ratio. Add a little coloring. It can also be replaced with brilliant green or potassium permanganate. Stir the resulting mass until thick.
The resulting sludge will easily stick to surfaces, but will not be able to grow and squirt.
Bright
To make our slime shiny, add more dye to the composition. You can use not only food dyes, but also water-based paints, as well as brilliant green.
With detergent
There is a way to make a jelly toy from detergent, shampoo and shower gel or liquid soap. Mix all the ingredients in equal proportions and refrigerate overnight.
Instead of shampoo, baking soda can be used in this recipe. In this case, the detergent will act as an adhesive. The density of consistency directly depends on the amount of soda.
with soap
Mix the toothpaste and soap together until smooth, adding a little flour to the solution. Stir the mixture constantly, with each addition of flour. Wet your hands periodically as you mix to prevent the mixture from sticking to them.Flour can be replaced with polymer-based glue. Then it should be used in a ratio of one to two compared to toothpaste.
How to form edible slimes in a home kitchen
To make edible slime, you will need striped candies such as Frutella and powdered sugar. Unwrap the candies and place them in a double boiler to thaw them. Once the candies have melted until soft, stir and remove. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the board before placing the candies. This is to prevent the slime from sticking to the board. Then completely cover the slime with powder and give it the desired shape.
Rainbow
Starch rainbow slime recipe. We mix a cup of glue with water in a volume equal to a glass. We distribute the glue in several containers. We add different color dye to each container. The color should be bright enough. Add starch to each bowl. Stir mixture into each cup until thickened. Then we combine the mixtures and mix them together. You should get a beautiful toy in the form of a rainbow of many colors.
Starry sky
Slime can be made in the shape of a starry sky. For this option we need PVA glue, starch, dark blue dyes, small silver sequins and dishes for work. Pour glue and dye into the container. Add the starch. We get a dark blue color that resembles the color of the night sky. Add glitter to the mixture and mix. Continuing to stir, we achieve the density of the mixture, squeeze out the slime from the dishes and knead it with our hands, distributing the glitter over the surface of the toy.
Magnetic joy
To prepare a slime that will be attracted to a magnet, take a bowl and pour liquid starch into it in an amount equal to a quarter of a glass. Add a couple of tablespoons of iron shavings to the mixture - in fact, it will be responsible for magnetism. Add PVA glue and mix until thick, after which we knead the toy with our hands for another five minutes.
All actions should be performed with gloves so that the hands do not darken from chips. The resulting mud will be able to stretch if you bring a magnet to it.
With glue in cold water
For the next recipe we need starch, PVA glue, water and dye. Mix starch with water in a bowl until thickened. Add dye to add color to the toy. Continuing to stir the mixture, gradually add glue to it. Then, using gloves, we take out the resulting toy and knead it with our hands on a flat surface. If the mass is not thick enough, add a little more glue to it.
It should be mentioned that the slime prepared according to this recipe is short-lived and deteriorates after a few days of active play with it.
Complex recipe from liquid starch and glue
To create a slime using this recipe, you will indeed need liquid starch, PVA glue, coloring and a container. Stir the starch and glue in a bowl, then leave the resulting mixture for a while so that it can infuse. Add the dye, mix again and leave for a few more minutes. At this point you can lay the cling film on the table and sprinkle some sprinkles on it.
We take the mixture out of the bowl and put it on the plastic wrap. We wrap the film and knead the mud inside.Then we remove the film and fold the toy already in our hands so that the sparkles are evenly distributed over the surface.
Cornstarch and shower gel
The following recipe calls for shower gel, cornstarch, and a bowl. As an option, you can add water, for a more liquid consistency, and dye, to give a bright color to our slime. Pour the shower gel into the container and add a few tablespoons of starch. Stir until pasty, while adding the coloring. If the consistency is runny, add more starch. You can add water to make it more elastic. We knead until the mud begins to resemble plasticine in consistency.
With hair balm
Let's make a slime from starch and hair balm. Pour the balm into a container and add starch to it. Remember to stir constantly. Do not add too much starch to keep the toy dry. It should be noted that not all balms are equally suitable for this method.

The slime thus prepared turns out to be very rich and pleasant to the touch. We need shaving foam, PVA glue, tetraborate, liquid soap and dyes. Flavorings can be used if desired.
Mix shaving foam, glue and soap. Slowly add the tetraborate to the mixture. We add colorings and flavorings. In this case, the mixture thickens quite quickly if you use high-quality glue. You can also do without soap and tetraborate, but then the mixture will have to be stirred for a long time until it thickens.
Precautionary measures
Don't let your child make the slime on their own, as they can burn the skin when working with chemicals.It is worth stirring the mixture with gloves, so as not to stain your hands with dyes. Also use a protective apron to avoid the risk of staining your clothes. Be sure to wash your hands after handling the slime.
Also, you should not use eating utensils, as the components can poison the body. Try to use disposable plastic dishes.
Tips & Tricks
Slime spoils when exposed to air, so store the toy in a plastic container to prolong its life. In order for the slime to retain its properties as long as possible, store it in the refrigerator.
