All sorts of decorations will help to diversify the appearance of the slime, to emphasize the individuality of its creator. So, the most popular additives for making DIY slimes are glitter, all sorts of dyes, foil, kandurine and even foam balls. How to properly decorate a famous toy, what to look for when choosing decorative elements, as well as tips and tricks for making an original slime.
Possible decorations
You can decorate the slime at the initial stage (when mixing the ingredients) or after doing it. You can add to the toy:
- dyes (food, vegetable);
- sequins;
- aluminum foil cut into pieces;
- foam balls;
- dry paint "silver";
- pearl powder;
- shine.
The appearance of the finished product depends on the glue used. So, if the basis is PVA glue, then the toy will become dull, if the stationery is transparent, "glass". Therefore, the jewels will look different with the slimes of each type.
Tinctures
Dyes are perhaps one of the simplest, but no less striking ways to decorate slime.You can use natural (for example, vegetable juice), vegetable (watercolor), food (the safest for creating children's toys) or glue-based (gouache) dyes. When choosing, you should pay attention to the expiration date. Dyes can be sold both in dry form, in powder form, and immediately in liquid form.
To give a beautiful shade, a small amount of dye is enough - a few drops or grams.
Sequins
Mud can be decorated with sparkles, which are used in the field of beauty (for nail design, makeup). It can be used both in liquid and dry form. The basic rule for creating a glitter toy is to thoroughly mix all the ingredients needed to create a slime. It is better to sprinkle with glitter at the stage of preparing the mass. This will position the light elements inside the toy.
Cut the foil
An unusual slime can be obtained using foil. This decoration is sold in stationery, in roll format. You can choose any color or design you like. There are two cooking options:
- Cut the foil into small pieces of any shape, mix with the mass to make a toy.
- Knead the mud. Prepare a few sheets of aluminum foil and place a model of the toy on top. Break up the aluminum foil by mixing it with the mud.
The latter method will allow you to get a uniform and original arrangement of pieces of foil.
foam balls
Slime with foam balls inside has an excellent anti-stress effect. To make at home, you will need:
- liquid starch;
- stationery glue;
- polystyrene balls.
Food coloring is added if desired. To cook:
- Pour half a bottle of glue into a container. Add coloring (if available).
- Add 125 ml of liquid starch to the glue, mix until a homogeneous dense mass is formed. If the slime is sticky, add a little liquid starch.It is important not to exceed the starch content in the mass, otherwise the toy will turn out to be very hard.
- Add balls. Distribute throughout the mass. Let stand 30 minutes.
This type of slime is very interesting for children - it allows them to develop their fine motor skills.
pearl powder
Pearlescent powders are powdered colorants that impart a deep and vibrant pearlescent color. A fairly small volume - 1-2 tbsp. The dye is generally sold ready to use: dry or liquid. No additional steps are required for preliminary preparation. The use of protective gloves is recommended. The powder is added to all the ingredients.
Serebryanka dry paint
Beautiful and original toys are obtained by adding silver paint. Looks like money. It is characterized by a rich hue. Just add 1-2 tsp.
Will give originality to a transparent slime, to be painted entirely on matte.
Properties of gouache
The basis of gouache is glue and coloring pigments, whitewash (to give a matte finish). Gouache has the consistency of a thick paste. It belongs to the category of water-soluble adhesives, so it goes well with the main ingredients for making slime. Use gouache to color matte toys made from PVA glue. There is a risk that due to the presence of white in the composition, over time, the color will become less bright, lighten. To dye slime, 2-3 grams of dye is enough.
Egg watercolors and dyes
You can add luminosity to mud using watercolors or egg dyes. Watercolors are made from vegetable oils, and therefore have a more liquid texture than other types of paints, such as gouache. However, due to this property, watercolors require 3-4 times more (compared to thicker types of paints). It is necessary to add watercolors to the base for the preparation of the toy.
Egg dyes come in two types: liquid and dry. To give slime a bright color, you only need 2-3 drops of solution or 2 g of powder. If the choice fell on a dye in the form of a tablet, then you must first dissolve it in water. The powder is added to the prepared base of the toy or sprinkled on an almost finished slime and kneaded until the desired result. Such dyes are used in the food industry (for the preparation of creams, jellies, jellies), therefore their use for the production of slime is absolutely safe and does not require any protective measures.
Mother-of-pearl kandurine
Kandurin also belongs to the category of food additives, widely used for decorating cakes. It can be dry (powder or beads) or liquid. The dry dye is usually diluted with water or a liquid containing alcohol. It is presented in a wide range of colors, looks like silver, gives products the effect of mother-of-pearl. To achieve a noticeable effect when making slime, you need to add 50-75 g of kandurin.
Presentation of sequins
Glitter is called cosmetic glitter, often used for nail design. The flakes can be of different shapes: multicolored, finely or coarsely chopped, crumbly. Depending on the type of sequins, one or another effect is achieved. Prepare glitter slime, you will need to prepare the following ingredients:
- starch (preferably liquid);
- PVA glue;
- dyes (optional);
- shine.
Cooking steps:
- Mix 1 packet. glue with 150 ml of starch. Stir slowly to achieve desired consistency. It is best to add glue in portions.
- Add glitter and color (optional), stir.
- If the resulting mass is sticky and viscous, you need to add glue and re-mix. If the mass is too hard, adding starch will help.
It is necessary to knead the mass until the slime of the desired consistency is formed.
Tips & Tricks
In order for the slime to delight in originality and beauty as long as possible, you need to carefully consider the recommendations:
- Slime should be stored in a separate container with an airtight lid. Preferably in the fridge. It is necessary to avoid direct sunlight and keep the container away from heating devices.
- To restore the elasticity of the toy, sodium tetraborate is purchased at a pharmacy. A few drops of the substance will instantly solve the problem.
- You can soften the toy with glycerin, hand cream, baby oil or heat.
- Frequent use of slime can lead to "drying out" - a decrease in the original size. One solution to the problem is a pinch of salt. After adding salt, the mud is thoroughly mixed. It is also recommended to periodically add liquid to the container with the toy. This will maintain the required liquid level in the product. After adding a "saver" element, the slime should be thoroughly kneaded.
Decorating a toy is a creative process that is limited only by the flight of the creator's imagination.The basis of success is a desire for experimentation. You can try to combine different ways of decorating, creating unique toys that have no analogues.
