Composition and technical characteristics of enamel KO-174, scope of application

KO-198 or KO-174 enamel is used for protective and decorative painting of various surfaces. These paints and varnishes contain organosilicon resins, which form a hard film after application to the base and drying. The coating layer protects the surface from negative climatic factors. The service life of painted objects is more than 10 years.

Composition and characteristics

All organosilicon glazes are marked with the letters "K" and "O". The number “1” means that paint and varnish products are used for exterior work (façade). These paints contain organic resins which make the coating resistant to abrasion. In addition, this enamel dries quickly in the open air. After painting, a coating is formed that is resistant to high (low) temperatures and water.

KO-174

In terms of its composition, KO-174 type enamel is a combination of modified pigments and organosilicon resin fillers. Used for exterior work (for protective and decorative painting). The paint is completely ready to use. Available in a variety of colors (white, red, black and other colors).

Before painting, it must be thoroughly mixed, too thick can be diluted with R-5, 646, thinner or xylene.

It is applied by brush, roller or spray on a prepared and primed base. After drying, a semi-matte or matte solid film forms on the surface. The coating has such properties as hydrophobicity, frost resistance, heat resistance. It is recommended to apply the enamel in 2 layers.

Features of the KO-174:

  • dries in 2 hours;
  • adheres to any base;
  • forms a strong and durable coating with a service life of more than 10 years;
  • applied at a temperature of -15 (-20) degrees, if there is no ice and frost on the base to be painted;
  • can be used at temperatures from -40 to +40 degrees;
  • painting can be carried out in regions with any climate;
  • forms a coating resistant to temperature extremes, frost, precipitation, salt spray;
  • does not fade in the sun;
  • withstands temperatures up to +150 degrees;
  • is a toxic and flammable material.

KO-198

KO-198 also contains organosilicon resin, as well as pigments, fillers and additives. It is mainly used for painting various metal surfaces. Used for protective and decorative purposes. Available in basic colors (gray, black, white, brown and others).

Features of KO-198:

  • dries quickly (in just 20 minutes);
  • adheres to metal;
  • forms a strong, hard film that protects the surface from moisture and acid;
  • does not let water through (protects metal from corrosion);
  • does not fade in the sun;
  • enamel is applied at temperatures from -30 to +40 degrees;
  • painting on metal is carried out in 2-3 layers, concrete and plaster surfaces - in 3 layers;
  • can withstand temperatures of +300 degrees.

Features

Before using paint and varnish products, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with its technical characteristics.Enamels contain organosilicon resins and various additional components that affect the drying rate and strength of the layer.

Application rules

It is very easy to work with KO-174 or KO-198 enamels. These paints and varnishes are completely ready to use. It is applied to a previously prepared base.

Preparatory work

KO-174 enamel preparation steps:

  1. Prepare the bottom. It is advisable to plaster the brick wall. The metal base can be primed with GF-021 primer. Old and cracked coatings must be completely removed. Enamel is applied only on a dry, smooth surface (preferably treated with a primer).
  2. Prepare the paint. It is recommended to mix the enamel well before painting. Too thick paint can be thinned with solvent, xylene, thinner Р-5, 646.

Preparation steps for KO-198:

  1. Base preparation. Before painting, it is recommended to clean the surface from dirt, grease, oil. For degreasing, you can use solvent, acetone, solvent. If there is rust on the metal, it must be removed.
  2. Preparing the paint. It is recommended to mix the enamel thoroughly before use so that there is no sediment at the bottom. If the paint is too viscous, it is advisable to dilute it with a solvent.

Coloring technique

It is advisable to let the mixed and diluted paint stand for ten minutes so that all the air bubbles come out.When using a spray gun, a thinner solution is prepared. Large flat surfaces are painted with a roller or spray gun. Dye the edges and ends with a paintbrush.

The recommended temperature for repair work is 20 degrees Celsius. The painting is carried out in at least 2 layers. During the coloring process, you need to make sure that there are no unpainted spots left. Wait at least 30 minutes before applying another coat of enamel. The painted surface dries completely in 24 hours.

Analogs

In addition to KO-174 and KO-198 enamels, other paints containing organosilicon varnish are produced. For example, KO-168. This enamel is used for exterior (façade) and interior work. With the help of KO-168 you can paint the facades of buildings, concrete walls, plaster and metal surfaces. KO-88, KO-813 and KO-814 enamels are used to protect and paint metal. These paints are used to paint a variety of metal surfaces exposed to high temperatures.
