Description and technical characteristics of enamel EP-773, rules of application
Epoxy enamel EP-773 consists of fillers and pigments in the composition of a solution of epoxy resin, hardener and solvent. It protects the metal from the effects of corrosion. As a result of painting, a reliable layer is formed that prevents the surface from coming into contact with the environment. To apply enamel to metal products, you will need to use the pneumatic spray method. In hard-to-reach places, you can use a brush.
general description
Paint EP-773 is applied to a surface initially treated with a primer or to metal products that have not passed the preparatory stage. However, enamel provides long-term corrosion protection. Objects made of non-ferrous and ferrous metals are not exposed after such treatment to the negative influences of chemical elements of an alkaline nature.
The enamel can be dried both cold and hot. EP-773 is a two-component material based on a mixture of epoxy resins.
Apps
EP enamels have a wide range of uses. They are used for painting metal products in shipbuilding, air and rail transport. This paint material is used to coat surfaces in:
- metal and its alloys;
- plastics;
- concrete.
Steel, aluminum, titanium structures treated with EP-773 will be protected from external factors such as atmospheric changes. Enamel imparts electrical insulation properties to metal products.
Specifications according to GOST
The enamel is resistant to high temperatures. According to GOST 23143 83, EP-773 must contain fillers, pigmenting substances and epoxy resin. The paint will not only protect against corrosion, but also against the effects of gasoline and oils on a metal product.
Among the important technical nuances:
- coating - outwardly looks like a smooth and monochromatic;
- color - may differ depending on the pigments, usually green and cream;
- the recommended number of layers is 2 with a thickness of 20-25 microns each;
- the proportion of non-volatile substances to the total mass - 60-66%;
- elasticity of the enamel layer when bending - up to 5 millimeters;
- the time it takes for the enamel to dry at a temperature of 20 degrees - 24 hours, at 120 degrees - up to 2 hours;
- shelf life after mixing enamel components at 20 degrees - 1 day.
To dilute paint and varnish, you need to purchase a toluene solvent.
Application rules
Before you start using EP-773 enamel, you need to prepare it. Mix the paint until you get an even consistency and spread it over the entire storage container.
The composition is initially combined with a hardener in the prescribed proportion according to the instructions. Then everything is thoroughly mixed for 10 minutes.
After that, the enamel should rest for 30-40 minutes in a calm state.After this time, the paint and varnish are mixed again, and if necessary, a little toluene solvent is introduced into the container in order to give the right degree of viscosity.
Preparation of surfaces and materials
Before painting with EP-773 enamel, the surface of metal products should be cleaned of rust, dust and dirt, oily traces and other elements that interfere with the application of paint. Since no rust converter is provided in the composition of the paint and varnish material, its elimination should be dealt with at the preliminary stage.
Application
The paint can be applied in two ways. In domestic conditions, for example, when painting batteries in an apartment, a roller or brush is used. In this case, the enamel consumption increases compared to the more common method of pneumatic spraying.
Surface painting is carried out when the air humidity does not exceed 80% and the temperature on the thermometer shows +15. Subsequent coats of paint are applied under the same conditions. You just need to let it sit for 24 hours and then start working again.
Control and drying
Paint and varnish applied to the surface can dry even at normal room temperatures, without the use of additional tools. But in this case, you have to wait.
When painting with EP-773 enamel by heating the product to 120 degrees, it will only take 2 hours to wait for the surface to dry completely. High temperature drying gives greater durability to the product, helps to minimize the time spent doing a full range of jobs.
Precautionary measures
It is dangerous to store and use enamel near fire.EP-773 is flammable. Painting of metal structures should be carried out in well-ventilated rooms or outdoors. In this case, the person performing such work must wear a respirator for respiratory protection and a special suit.
If the coloring pigment comes into contact with the skin, you should immediately wash it off with soap and warm water.
Storage conditions and periods
Direct sunlight should not fall on the dye, although the optimal storage temperature is -30 to +30 degrees. You should also avoid places where humidity and condensation cannot be avoided. Paint and varnish are fire hazardous, therefore contact with fire and high temperatures should be avoided. EP-773 Enamel can be stored in its original packaging for up to 6 months from the date of manufacture of the colorant.
