Description and properties of Titebond wood glue, rules of use
One of the best-known brands in the carpentry glue market is Titebond. It is a moisture-resistant glue with a transparent or creamy structure, designed for bonding different types of wood. With this glue you can do a lot of work with wood and plastic, getting a reliable and water-repellent glue line.
Description and purpose
Titebond Assembly Glue is a high quality joinery for professional and home use. Is used for:
- repairs;
- gluing of wooden and plastic structures;
- plywood manufacturing;
- furniture assembly;
- parquet laying;
- restoration of wooden coverings.
It can be used in the same way as a putty when sealing joints.
Composition and properties
Depending on usage, the glue in the Tytobond range is based on polyurethane, artificial rubber or aliphatic resins. Additives are a certain amount of various plasticizers, modifiers, as well as protein compounds and water.
The glue is non-abrasive, which means that it does not harm the tools used for further processing and refining of products. After drying, it is transparent, does not distort the appearance of the material.Resistant to frost, heat (up to +40 C), solvents. Burns at +100 C. Not suitable for use on wet surfaces.
Storage 2 years after opening.
Main advantages
Titebond is a super strong adhesive that bonds to surfaces almost instantly (10-20 minutes). When gluing parts, pressing only needs a short period of time. At the same time, serious compression, laying under a press is not required - fastening with average efforts is sufficient.
It is used ready to use without the need for dilution. Economical in use, consumption depends on environmental conditions. Has world-class certification.
The glue joint has increased strength, is not afraid of sudden changes in temperature and humidity, which guarantees the durability of glued materials.
The adhesives in the Tytbond range are suitable for all wood species, many types of plastics and other mixed formulations of wood materials. Before the glue dries, all stains, drops formed during operation are washed off with water.
Varieties
There are approximately 25 adhesives in the Titebond range which are widely used in industry. The following four one-component compositions are considered the most popular in our country.
original wood glue
Sold in containers with a red sticker. Suitable for restoration, renovation, production of musical instruments. When dry, it does not alter the woody qualities, does not distort the sound and becomes harsh. In addition, it can be used to assemble furniture.
Features:
- viscosity - 3200 mPa * s;
- dry residue - 46%;
- acidity - 4.6 pH;
- the minimum operating temperature is +10 С;
Not recommended for outdoor use.
Titebond 2 Premium
Has a blue label. Suitable for bonding all types of wooden products. Suitable for bonding seams and joints.Allows you to work with laminate, chipboard, fiberboard, veneer, plywood and paper film. Good for restoring furniture, gluing various boards. Distinguished by excellent adhesion at a short pressure interval.
Physical properties of glue:
- viscosity - 4000 mPa * s;
- dry residue - 48%;
- acidity - 3 pH;
- minimum operating temperature - +12 C;
- consumption per 1 m2 - 180 g.
This type of glue is resistant to heat, solvents and acoustic vibrations. After using such glue, the products will not stick at temperatures from -30 to 50C. The dried composition has a creamy transparent tone.
Titebond 3 Ultimate
Water-based adhesive sold in containers with a green label. The consistency is creamy and opaque in appearance. Prepared with water. Designed for fiberboard, particleboard, veneer, plywood, MDS, wood and plastic. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Distinguished by particularly good moisture resistance.
Titebond 3 Ultimate is non-toxic. It can be used for objects that are used to store food, as well as those that interact directly with food.
Not suitable for bonding parts under water.
The use of the adhesive is possible with a hot or cold method. In the first case, the speed of the surface setting process is increased by heating the glue joint or the wood itself.
Composition properties:
- viscosity - 4200 mPa * s;
- dry residue - 52%;
- acidity - 2.5 pH;
- density - 1.1 kg / l;
- consumption per 1 m2 - 190 g;
- drying time - 10-20 minutes;
- the minimum operating temperature is +8 C.
ironclad
Super strong mounting adhesive, sold in a yellow tube. It contains artificial rubber, which makes it possible to glue wet and frozen wooden products. The glue joint does not change under physical impact, does not crumble, is not susceptible to fungus formation.
In addition to wooden surfaces, it makes it possible to glue slate, ceramics, organic glass, fiberglass, artificial and natural stone. Suitable for use inside and outside buildings, laying floor coverings, renovation and manufacture of garden equipment, creating decorative elements, fitting mirrors.
It is not used for gluing polystyrene, as well as immersed parts.
Properties:
- viscosity - 150 Pa * s;
- dry residue - 65%;
- density - 1.1 kg / l;
How to use correctly
Working with Tytbond glue does not require special skills and knowledge. When using it, the main thing is to clearly follow the instructions. Work should only be carried out at positive temperatures.
Surface preparation
The surface of the materials prepared for bonding must be dried, cleaned of dust, grease, oils and other contaminants using solvents. It is not recommended to apply Titebond on painted surfaces, therefore the old paint should also be removed.
Work with glue
Mix the glue well, apply it to the surface of both parts with a brush and squeeze them well, excluding lags. During the drying period (10-20 minutes), remove the excess with a damp cloth.If necessary, reposition the pieces until the glue dries.
Precautionary measures
It is necessary to work in ventilated areas using protective equipment (especially for people with allergies). If the adhesive comes into contact with the mucous membrane of the eyes, it is necessary to rinse the eyes with running water for a quarter of an hour. If you feel dizzy or nauseous, get out quickly. In case of contact with the skin, remove as soon as possible and wash with soapy water.
Keep out of reach of babies.
Additional tips and tricks
Since the glue hardens in a short time, it must be prepared immediately before use.For better adhesion, the product can be placed in a press. Do not use Titebond in direct sunlight, as this can destroy the glue line. Expired glue is not suitable for further use, it is better to throw it away.
