To better paint the heels of boots, what you need and how to apply it

Stylish shoes, boots with peeling paint on the soles lose their presentable appearance. Irregularities on driveways and sidewalks cause discoloration of heels, especially thin and high heels. When such defects appear on new shoes, it is easy to fix them without resorting to the help of professional shoemakers. To do this, you need to know how and how to paint the heels of boots and shoes.

When to paint heels on shoes

It is possible and useful to restore the shoe to its former appearance if the scratches have not damaged the structure of the heel and only the paint has peeled off. The restored color of the base of the sole should be in harmony with the appearance of the upper part of the shoe / boot / boot.

What is needed for coloring

The choice of paint depends on the material from which the shoe is made. For dyeing shoes, special dyes are produced in the form of:

  • aerosols;
  • powder;
  • water or oil emulsion.

In addition to paint, you will need a degreaser to remove organic deposits. It can be gasoline, white spirit, technical alcohol, turpentine.

If the heel is a different color from the top of the shoe, then it will need to be isolated from the upper parts adjacent to the sole. This will keep it from staining, especially when using a spray. The covering material is a plastic bag, electrical tape, scotch tape, masking tape.

The liquid paint is not aerosolized and the powder is applied to the support part using a sponge or a brush. To facilitate the removal of the coating, use a hair dryer to warm the sole.

Characteristics of the paint

The methods of restoring the color of the coating depend on the material of construction of the heel, the type of coating, the shape and the length. Insulate the upper part of the shoe before painting. The adjacent heel is covered with adhesive tape. The upper part of the boot, the boot is placed in a plastic bag with a heel slot. The shoe is covered with a film.

Plastic

Scratches on the plastic are hidden with paint or nail polish. The acrylic paint is selected to match the damaged coating in an aerosol or liquid version. Thick heels are painted with a spray, thin heels - with a brush.

On a degreased surface, the paint is sprayed from a distance of 25-30 centimeters in up and down movements in order to avoid the formation of smudges. The coloring composition is applied in 2 layers, with an interval of 10-20 minutes (after the first layer dries). Spread the black nail polish evenly over the surface. The number of coloring is 2-3 times.

Wrapped in paper

Paper-wrapped heels are repaired in several ways, using:

  • paper;
  • acrylic paint;
  • nail polish;
  • insulating tape.

At the preparatory stage, in any case, the remnants of the coating are removed. For this, the surface is moistened with water and heated with a hair dryer. Remove the cover. The remnants of glue are first removed with a knife. Then remove the remaining glue with a cotton cloth soaked in a degreaser. The surface is leveled with sandpaper, changing the grain size so that no roughness remains on it.

For the paper used to imitate a composition heel, a pattern is made from tracing paper. The heel is wrapped in a single layer, carefully pressed to the surface and trimmed with a sharp knife. The pattern is transferred to paper, observing the location on the sole. The cover, ready to be replaced, is glued.

Acrylic paint is applied in 2-3 layers. The scratches are covered beforehand, thus leveling the surface of the heel. Then paint maintaining an interval until each layer is completely dry.

Using nail polish allows you to cut out heels. After the preparatory phase, a white paint is applied to the heel. A pattern is copied onto a paper pattern and painted according to the color scheme with 5 layers of nail polish, alternating vertical and horizontal application.

At the preparatory stage, in any case, the remnants of the coating are removed.

After drying, the paper layer is carefully removed. To do this, it is moistened with water and carefully peeled off the varnish. The drawing is glued with waterproof glue and varnished again. The decoupage method is used when repairing two heels, the height of which exceeds 5 centimeters.

The insulating tape is applied to the treated surface with coarse-grained emery paper. The winding starts from the top, taking half of the previous layer.To prevent the ribbon from creasing, notches are made on the spiral: the lower, the more often. The layer in front of the heel is coated with glue. The service life of the insulation coating is one season, after which a repetition of the recovery cycle is necessary.

How to Fix a Completely Damaged Heel

If the integrity of the heel is damaged, if it is gnawed by a dog, part of it has fallen off and a hole has formed, a fracture has occurred, special recovery methods are used.

Epoxy or plastic is used to restore the heel. Epoxy is used to seal deep canine teeth marks. The softened plastic is pressed into the resulting hole. The edges are leveled by heating over the fire of a match or lighter. In both cases, a dye is added to match the heel: in resin - dry, in plastic - liquid.

If a crack has formed on the cleat, you will need to detach it from the sole to repair it. To do this, bend the insole on the heel, unscrew the fasteners that hold the hairpin. The heel has a metal bar. In case of damage, it is replaced by an integer. The crack is sealed with epoxy. Put the heel in place.
